Anyway, I picked Katy up from the airport on Monday afternoon. Tuesday morning we left for the point around 10 or 10:30. Nice drive down there! Kinda rainy, but it was nice. The US-23 Construction wasn't bad at all at 11 am on a Tuesday. 280 moved very nicely too. Stopped off at the McDonalds in Oregon on Route 2 and got online on the laptop for a bit to see if Dragster was up and running, and when the rain would stop. Found out both dragster were down, and the rain might plague us all afternoon. After that, headed off to the point. Traffic moved pretty nicely (60MPH or so) all the way to the point. I took route 4, which really totally sucked. Stopped off at battery park, but it was hard to see the park through the fog. This was the first time Katy had seen Top Thrill Dragster in person, and needless to say she was quite impressed and quite anxious to get over to the park.
Pulled up the causeway, paid the $8 for parking. I was given a little yellow strip saying that Dragster would not open today. Oh well. We parked near the entrance and I took Katy into the season pass center to get her pass with Joe Cool Club. The pass center was empty, so it was quite a quick and painless process (unlike when I had mine processed on April 26th). The guy at the center mentioned how she was quite a ways from home (She lives in Dallas/Fort Worth Texas). After we got the pass, it was time to go into the park. I wanted to ride Wicked Twister, so we headed over there first thing. Back row, as always. Great Ride! Katy was a bit scared by it, though. I think she felt like we'd go right off the top of the back spike. After that, I think we did space shot on Power Tower, then rode Iron Dragon. I went back and signed the Gemini banners. After that, I got some chilli cheese fries at the Happy Friar, and I noticed someone working there that I knew. Talked to him for awhile and headed back to Mean Streak. There was a 45 minute wait!!!!!! no way was I waiting in that line! I think we rode Corkscrew and Blue Streak somewhere in there, then waited in line for Millennium Force. Great ride as usual, but it just doesn't seem to be going as fast as it was last year. I think I am just spoiled with Dragster. After Millennium Force, we decided to head back to the hotel. It was decent. We stayed at the Comfort Inn in Huron (We're both 18, so we couldn't stay on point or in most sandusky hotels) and it was quite nice. It was $90 a night, but I have to say it was nice, clean, and the rooms were big.
Woke up at 7am on Wednesday and got online. Saw that dragster was closed. We drove to the park about 8 and made it back to the Magnum gate by 8:30 or so. We were second in line for the season pass line. At 9, we ran to Millennium Force and got a great ride in. Then after that, we went to Mantis and got front row after a short wait. Rode mantis again right after then the sky ride. Met my friend Brian up front after that, and we rode Wicked Twister. After Wicked Twister we rode the Turbo Drop side of Power Tower, then got a freeway for Millennium Force and Mantis. 5-6 on Mantis and 6-7 on Millennium Force. Perfect.
I'm pretty sure after getting freeway passes we headed back. Magnum's wait was like 30-45 minutes, so we waited in line for Gemini. Got on in 5 minutes. I love the Gemini, but I don't think Brian was too impressed. Oh well. Went back to the Mine Ride and rode that. Its still very uncomfortable :/ I just hope that they remove those stupid seat pads sometime soon! After the Mine Ride, we went to Mean Streak. The line was again 45 minutes. No way was I waiting 45 minutes for a ride thats a walk on at night. We waited in line for about 15-20 minutes for White Water Landing. Great ride, I still love it. After WWL, we headed out for some lunch. Got back with enough time to ride Disaster Transport, eat a cheese on a stick, and head to Iron Dragon. Rode ID, then got in line for Mantis for my freeway pass. After Mantis, it was about time for our Millennium Force pass. Got on Millennium Force about 6:10, and then got in line for the Turbo Drop on Power Tower again. Just then, we heard the crowd waiting on Dragster cheering, so we got out of line and got into line for Dragster. This was about 6:30ish or so. Waited in line until like 7:45 when it broke down. We were in the first set of queues at this point, and made it almost to the ramp 90 minutes later when people got out of line. They finally shot off a test fire, and it made it about 1/4 the way up the hill and rolled back. This was at 9:10 or so. Katy and I got out of line, but Brian stayed in line. We got a Magnum in then headed for Millennium Force. Got in line, and as we were getting into the last set of queues, Brian called. They apparently got Dragster back up and he was next for Front Seat. We kept our eye on Dragster, but it didn't fire for a long time. I called him, but got no answer. Later found out that he was sitting in the station in the train, but didn't want to answer his phone. Anyway, after about 5-10 minutes they finally shot some more trains off. Brian called a little later and told us he just rode it, and was buying his photo. At htis time we were getting up to the Millennium Force station, so we just met up at the exit. He showed us his picture, and we talked for a few minutes and at about 11 he decided to leave. We walked over to Dragster and sat in the grandstands for about 30 minutes. I think we finally left the park around 11:45 pm. We headed back to the hotel room and literally fell asleep as we hit the pillow.
Woke up on Thursday at 7, got online with my laptop and noticed they were moving trains in the station of Dragster. Since Katy hadn't gotten to ride Dragster yet, I figured it may be running, so I woke her up and we headed to the point. We were just turning right onto Perimeter road after the tollbooths when we saw the tower lights on Dragster go. Next thing we knew, a train was going up. The train reached the top, and stalled for a second, then rolled back! 2 Rollbacks in less than 12 hours!!! wow! We got in line at 8:30 again, this time behind a few more people. Got into the park at 9 and ran as fast as we could to Dragster. It wasn't running 'due to weather conditions'. After it stopped raining, Dragster wasn't running 'due to mechanical problems'. Finally about 1, Katy and I decided we should just give up. We walked down to Power Tower and got in line for Turbo Drop. Dragster shot off another test run. Then they shot off another a few minutes later, so we ran back to the line. Thankfully, since we had only been gone maybe 5 minutes, the guys we were in line next to didn't mind letting us back into line! After another test run or two, they let us into the line. We got front seat in the dark purple train after about 15-20 minutes! It was AWESOME! Front seat is definitely worth the extra (well not really an extra at this point) wait! After that, we waited around another 20 minutes for our on-ride photo. What lousy service that place had. It took forever to get a freaking picture!
We left the park, but got our hands stamped. I needed to get a season pass at Six Flags Worlds of Adventure since I was going to Magic Mountain and Six Flags over Texas this year. The original plan was to spend all day at WoA, but Dragster ruined those. I drove out there (its a nice drive too) and got my pass. The guy didn't charge me for parking which was nice. :) I was talking about Dragster in the parking lot, and some guy said 'I heard its down for the rest of the season' and I kindly let him know that we just had gotten off it not 2 hours prior. After I got my pass, I pondered going in and riding X-Flight. I didn't really feel like it, though. Back to Cedar Point we went. Got a good ride on Raptor in (Front Seat!) after maybe 15 minutes wait. Rode the Space Spiral and had another cheese on a stick (Damn those things are great!).
Went to Millennium Force and got a great ride in on that. While in line, we saw another rollback on Dragster. Then we decided to head back to Heading West to get a tshirt (1/2 off coupon from the getawayguide). I couldn't resist Mean Streak as it was a walk on. Katy loved the front seat and it was quite a smooth ride on the Gold Train. After Mean Streak, we rode the train to the front where we walked up and left the park and headed home. All in all a GREAT trip! never have I been so freaking tired!
Now its off to Michigan's Adventure on Monday. I can't wait to ride Shivering Timbers, and I hope she loves it as much as I do.
I took a couple dozen pictures of the park - Posted them at http://www.bholcomb.com/cp061703/ - Most of the pictures I took weren't great though.. The weather sucked for most of the trip.
