$25,000,000

Well if you were wondering why it is only a Launch Tophat Breaks, here is your answer. I thought it was going to be expensive, but I did not think it would cost as much as MF! Was anyone else surprised by that?
I know I sure was. It must have been all those extra crane rentals. lol ;)

And don't forget SIX, count 'em, SIX very elaborate sets of trains. Also, the hydraulic launch mechanism with its safety controls can't be cheap either. $25 mil - WOW!!!
With $25 million, I guess we won't be getting anything next year now besides Lighthouse Point 2. I'm bitter because I'm not a fan of launched coaters, and now we have 2 in a row. Dragster will take a few years to get their investment back. They said in the Q&A that CP listens to the general public...we'll how high and fast to people want to go? Why not spend the money on more family attractions... a classic dark ride, a smooth wooden coaster, a large Wild Mouse, more flat/spinning rides, a Master Blaster in Soak City, etc.

Sorry gang, I don't get the point of this coaster other than to inflat CP's ego. I was hoping a few flat rides would go along with it (besides relocating Toika and Chaos). What was the point of Wicked Twister last year?

needless quotation removed -J

You cannot be serious. How much money did they pump into Camp Snoopy over the last year or two? Cedar Point knows what they're doing. If you want more kiddie rides, go to SFWoA, PKI, or even Kiddie Park for that matter. CP's claim to fame has been and will continue to be bigger, faster, and more intense than any of their nearest competition.

Well, there has to be a boo-bird in every crowd. Net, I don't understand you but I respect your opinion.

Cedar Point caters to all. Last year it was Wicked Twister but they also put a big investment into the Snoopy Ice show. In the past decade they have improved Soak City, added water rides, built Camp Snoopy, built more hotel rooms, a better campground, etc.

The point if this coaster is simply to stroke their own ego? I doubt the thousands of riders who will line up for it every day believe that.

Not to say I told you so....but I told you so in November.

'Playa, I give credit where credit is due.

The $25 million doesn't suprise me. What does is how much horsepower this thing puts out.

If you watched the interveiw with Sandor Kernacs, you'll find out this thing will put out 10,000 HP! That is a LOT of energy.

The enrergy in10,000 HP is the equivalent to

6.4 tons of dynomite

74,000 100 watt light bulbs for an hour

1.8 million pounds of fat

If you compare TTD to a real dragster, It has to be a heck of a lot more reliable. Top fuel dragster's engines have to be torn down and rebuilt after just about every run. TTD has to run the whole season without anything but normal maintance. Hopefully the overall downtime for TTD this year is less than 5%, but they said they will be doing extensive testing to get the bugs out before may 4th. They said that the electrical work is 20% done. I think they will have this thing running by early to mid march. Then they will have a couple months for testing/landscaping.

Remember, "Being fat can even ruin a romantic cruise"

I've heard some fuzzy numers that, basically, for every 20 feet of construction above the 300 ft mark, you can expect to pay $1 million in construction costs.

I'm not talking about kiddie rides gang. Try reading my post rather than seeing what you want to see. I mentioned a wooden coaster, a dark ride (ala Spiderman or Men in Black), a Wild Mouse. I'm not saying that this ride will stink, it's just in the last 4 years (MF, WT, Drag), CP has really only catered to extreme thrill seekers. What about those people or families that prefer just an average-sized coaster... that could be a B&M floorless or flyer too.

This ride doesn't surprise me because we've obviously seen it now for months. I hated it from the start. But there was a quote that this would be the most expensive off-season ever and I was hoping for something else... a flat ride or two, or a Soak City addition to go along with this investment. When you spend $25 million, what's another $2 million on something else?

As much as you guys want a coaster of this magnitude, I don't. It's my opinion. You're opinions are just that...opinions. This ride just seems a little too extreme to me. You are the same people that will be complaining because CP will not have a new ride next year after spending $25 million on this.

Somebody's conveniently forgetting a a family coaster, a bucketload of family rides in '99 and the Peanuts on Ice show in '02. Other than the lack of coasters for the 36"-45" set, those bases have been covered and then some.

You mean if VF was not getting Steel Venom, this thing would be 580 feet tall??!! I live 20 minutes from VF and I am still pissed off! LOL

Cedar Point has always prided itself on being the number one roller coaster capitol of the world. People don't want "average sized coasters" anymore. Meanwhile they have average sized coasters. Iron Dragon, WildCat, Corkscrew, Cedar Creek Mine Ride, and Disaster Transport come to mind. In regard to the request for Floorless and Flyers, they've been done a million times over. If you've ever been to Six Flags and PKI, they've got floorless and flyers. We don't want to copy the guy in second place. We want innovative and that's what we've got: The world's tallest, and fastest rollercoaster ever built and the world's first Strata Coaster. Cedar Point has something for everyone, you just have to be smart enough to find it.

You guys and gals should of watch Exterme machines (Roller Coasters) that last two years (Discovery Channel) and they did metion something, about the roller coaster races to see who can build the tallest and the fastest Roller Coaster. They also said we could possibly see couple rollercoaster to break 400 feet.

Why is this so hard to understand? All I'm saying is they need to spread it out. The last 3 coasters are not something for everyone!!!! I'll go on Dragster, but for my family members who do not like outrageous heights, CP has added nothing in quite some time to enthuse them. (counting Woodstock as a kiddie ride). The last roller coaster CP built of an intermediate size was Iron Dragon...in 1987!!! I love incredible heights and records too, but what's NEW for the average thrillseeker?
You want them to build rollercoasters as tame as Iron Dragon?

Iron Dragon, Disaster Transport, Mine Ride, Woodstock's Express, Wildcat and Corkscrew are all family rides that are not too intimidating. I think they have plenty. Just last year they put in the ice show. While not a ride, it is a great family attraction. What is going to bring in people? Dragster will. A 75' foot tall, 40mph family coaster will not. Even if some people won't ride, they will come to CP just to watch this incredible ride.

Florida may have Disneyworld and Key West,
but Ohio has Cedar Point and Put-In-Bay.
It's great to live in Ohio!

Two points:

1. That's not the direction the park feels it need to go.
2. Attendance isn't exactly dropping, so they must be doing something right.

What's so hard to understand about that?

Well, I'd say Iron Dragon is a little bit weak for even the average thrill seeker. Besides, Cedar Point isn't your "average" park. It would be, in my opinion, boring, then.

Aww.....Florida! But That's America's Wang
