Im really interested in working at Cedar Point next season. I basically lived there this summer and really thought it would be awesome to work there. I will be 18 and graduated in May. So i have a few questions regarding working here.
1. Is it easy to get hired? Ive never worked at an amusement park or anything like it.Would that be a problem?
2. I would need the housing since i live about an hour away, what is that like and how much does it cost to live there?
3. When does the hiring season start? And what is the process of getting hired?
4. I want to work on a ride, do you get to pick the ride or do they assign you one, and if you work on a ride do you stay on that same ride or does it change?
Thank you for helping me and for your time.
1. I personally don't think it's all that hard to get hired. That being said, I do know a handful of people who have applied and not heard back. Don't worry about never having worked at a park before, I can garuentee at least 95% of people who work here, it's their first times as well. You will have an ample amount of training before you actually start working, so no worries!
2. All three seasons that I've worked at the park, I've lived in housing. It isn't the greatest thing in the world, but in the end you're usually just there to sleep. Housing is divided into on-point and off-point. The on-point housing includes golds and cedars, and the off-point includes the common dorms, apartments and bayside. I personally prefer the common dorms just because they're the only ones with air conditioning. The rent is taken directly out of your check, and is like 30-40$/week.
3. Applications will usually go up at the end of December to mid January. Interview calls will go out end of January.
4. Most first years aren't really given a choice. However, in most cases I believe that they will take into consideration where you would like to go. I worked Millennium my first year, so there's always a chance of getting bigger rides as a first year. That being said, if you do get a smaller ride give it a chance. It's not your location that will make your summer great, but your crew. There is also always the chance to cross train too. Over the last three years, I've worked over ten different ride locations.
I worked at Ocean Motion this year and it was my first year. I went in very optimistic because everyone was saying its your crew not your ride. Our crew was amazing and we were the best of friends we had very sad goodbyes. I asked about getting crossed trained and such. I worked through my splits which would change my O-1:30/6-C to a voluntary O-C by working 1:30-6 at a different location. My most common were Kiddy Kingdom and Sweeps. Once I got to go to Matterhorn Triangle (Matterhorn, Scrambler, Dodgem). I personally enjoyed them all because the crews were amazing! But I did talk to my supervisor about trying something different and he worked something out with my manager and I got to go to maXair for a week. Which also a random weekend when maXair was short staffed near the end of my contract. Because allot of people do take contracted time off and sometimes that location will need someone to fill in from a crew that defiantly has enough people to survive without O-C's to a crew that would be say +0 or -1 even. So there is defiantly still hope for going to a ride you would like for at least a week.
