Hi all, I have a few questions for people that have worked at the point and can help me. Thank you in advance!
1. If I am applying with 3 years of experience at a customer-service type job do you think I would have a chance at a supervisor type position? Or is that not taken into account at CP and it's all seniority based? I'm unfamiliar with their hiring practices so that is why I am curious. I'm looking for ways that I could be more than just a first year peon, although if I have to be, I am okay with it.
2. Does CP offer any internships other than in the summer? Their website leads me to say no they do not but I was wondering if anyone knew of anything different. It would be nice to continue working for them in the offseason (other than being a lifeguard or something at castaway bay).
3. I know the website says there are no co-ed dorms but do they ever make exceptions? Or do you know of anywhere in Sandusky with relatively cheap rent to live for the summer?
Thanks again for the help!
1. It is very rare to be hired right into a supervisor position but I have seen it before and I wont tell you it cant be done. Even if you are not hired in as a supervisor you can be moved up quickly for various reasons.
2. Cannot really answer that and will not try.
3. The only exception to co-ed dorms would be a married couples other than that they are strictly co-ed. As for apartments in Sandusky it depends on what you consider cheap. I had an apartment fairly close for $429. Sandusky is not "ghetto" but not the greatest city.
GO IRISH!!
Thanks for the response!
I am a supervisor at my current job so that's why I wondered. Anything like a TL or ATL would be something that I would want to do. But that is good to know that it can be done!
That is good to know about the apartments. Do/did you live in CP housing or off point? I think I could deal with the little pains of the CP housing purely because of how cheap it is but I like to hear the opinions of others.
Adding on to what SteveDePoy said, it really depends on your division too. I've seen people in foods go from being a red tag, to supervisor in a week. In rides? It's a lot more competitive. That being said, it can be done, but I don't think you would actually be contracted as a supervisor right away in any regards.
As far as internships go, I do know that they hire marketing interns for the summer. For other things, and other times of the year, I really don't know.
2010: Millennium Force & Mantis
2011: Raptor
2012: Raptor, Sky Ride and Wicked Twister
2013: Co-Team Leader of Sky Ride
2014: Supervisor of Slingshot/Skyscraper
I worked at CP for 5 years. Lived in housing for 4 of those years and my last year I had moved to Sandusky and got my own apartment before the season starts. It all depends on your room mates on how CP dorm life goes. I had pretty good luck in my years in housing.
GO IRISH!!
The housing isn't horrible and they plan on improving it by the start of the 2013 season, including better internet and improvements to the rec center.
Interesting how this thread is closely related to what I was going to ask.
In 2012 I was Assistant Rides Manager for a very successful small park not too far from Cedar Point. I was in charge of operators for over 35 rides. I was responsible for training, scheduling, mentoring, and breaking ride operators. Being on the midway all day also gave me a lot of experience with guest service as well. My most noticeable accomplishment was reworking how we operate our major wooden coaster. I wrote a "Guide to Fun" for the operators which consisted of guidelines regarding how to interact with guests, speaking in a positive yet informative manner for spiels, and comprehensive list of coaster statistics that can be used to entertain guests (I thought of CP when making this). My knowledge of the rides is so extensive that I can operate and train operators on every ride there.
Thinking ahead, I'm already evaluating my options for 2013. I'm graduating college this spring, and I'm going into graduate studies. My major is marketing, and I will be focusing on management for my graduate studies. For the summer of 2013 I'm considering broadening my management experience within the amusement industy as this is the industry I want to have a career with.
My question is similar, does Cedar Point hire people into manager/supervisor positions that do not have prior experience with Cedar Point? I have found a few names I can contact, but before I start I would like a few opinions from people within the Cedar Point community.
