No, I'm not currently a police officer, but I'm going to be attending Ohio State next fall majoring in criminal justice. I would like to get some exposure to police work at cedar point so how do you go about becoming a commissioned police officer through the City of Sandusky?
You have to be a police officer...commissioned just means they have the power to actually be a police officer...So.....go to the police academy...then come back...and try to get a job as a Sandusky cop
You definitely do not need to be an actual police officer to work in the police department at Cedar Point (or I know there are definitely many non-bonded officers). Of course there are certain limitations on what you can or cannot do, but many of the security guards are college students majoring in criminal justice - they actually look for students in this area.
I'm sure you have a good chance of getting a job if you are a criminal justice major, smart with common sense, and can wear a pair of oakley sunglasses and look cool at the same time. Not sure on the specifics, but some duties often seem to include sitting in guard booths and at employee gates and monitoring the park. I suppose it depends on the position you get... but officers who end up working in Commons at night have to put up with a lot more crap, which can be interesting. I would wait until they post the actual job descriptions once again, which will further explain the available positions.
I always heard that CP Police were recruited from Sandusky/Huron area and were already full fledged police officers...I mean it'd be kinda weird that you can be a police officer up there and actually be a full fledged officer without actually truly being one...make sense...Video kinda goes into it...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKyUmDerwfI&feature=channel_video_title
If not ah well...
At Cedar Point there are two type of police officers, bonded and non-bonded. If you are bonded that means you have gone through an academy and are at least 21 years-old.
Non-bonded are people who haven't gone through an academy and are under 21.
The difference is that the bonded get to have guns and they can arrest people. The non-bonds can't.

I apologize, a friend of mine is an officer for CP so I'm sorry for not thoroughly explaining all the options.
So basically if your non bonded...You're the equivalent of a mall cop...but not even, because mall cops can arrest...nice haha...doesn't seem to impressive xD
You can arrest people, but only if directed to do so by someone that is higher than you. You can also use the handcuffs to detain unruly guests.
your gun is a can of pepper spray...

Thanks so much for all of the info and yes I understand theyre not going to just give you a gun and a badge and tell you to go get them wild west style. Haha I was just wondering if there were any of these "mall cop" type positions to give me just a little experience in law enforcement especially because most departments won't hire you on or put you through an academy until you're at least 21. So who should I contact to begin this application process, cedar point? Or Sandusky police?
You will have to contact Cedar Point. Their police force is not associated with Sandusky. I mean it is but it is considered a different division.
The "mall cop" style jobs can be given to anyone. It just depends on what your assignment is for the day.

Actually for the last few years Cedar Point's Police department has been a fully accredited and independent department. They no longer have to go through the city of Sandusky. Though they still have a good relationship with them and a lot of the seasonal force is brought in from Sandusky, and Perkins.
When the applications come up there will be an option for Security, fill out the application and put that as your choices. Then when you get the interview just explain to your interviewer exactly what you are looking for.

I selected Return Back to Park Operations and proceeded to "Employment History" but then stopped. I've just red over what MillenniumSpork posted today and was wondering how could I restart the application?...If it's possible.
i think it should be fine if you only select return to park ops. that is what i did last year around this time and i was fine.

Can first year ride hosts get popular rides like TTD or MF? Those would be where I want to work but I'm sure a lot of ride op hopefuls are the same. I know your crew makes your summer but it would be cool to work one of those rides for even a little bit if I were to get shifted to another ride.
Ahh I'm so excited. Can't wait for my interview!!
