I'm looking for summer vacation ideas and came across Cedar Point. I know nothing about this place it looks fun. I've read the best place to stay is on the point. Which hotel do you recommend? Why? How many days should we plan to stay and play? We like suites/condos and nicer hotels. Any additional information about anything at Cedar point would be helpful. Thanks.
Let's talk Disney!
We love staying at the Breakers Hotel because it's right on top of the action. Go out one side of the hotel and you're at the beach. Go out the other side and you're at the park, not to mention the water park and challenge park in between. Nothing like being tired at the end of the day and only a five minute walk from your room. The suites are a bit pricey, but there are rooms/suites for every taste and budget. Sandcastle Hotel and Lighthouse Point are nice also, but farther away from the park. The atmosphere at those two places is a little more quiet. All depends upon what you are looking for.
Cedar Point is one of the largest and best amusement parks in the world. It's location on a peninsula that juts out into Lake Erie at Sandusky, Ohio.
I agree with the above. It's nice knowing you are just minutes away from you room. Their are plenty of off site choices not far from CP too. If this is your first and maybe only visit I would stay on site.
I would stay 3 days and 2 nights, especially if you come in the mid summer. That way you can ride all of the rides, see all of the shows and visit the Soak City water park which is connected to Cedar Point. There is a separate admission for Soak City. They do have hotel and ticket packages for both parks at lower costs. Check their website.
Nearby are the Lake Erie islands which are a number of vacation type islands and area well worth the visit for a day or so. They can be reached by ferry boat.
Of course, because CP is hopelessly behind the times, you won't be able to check hotel package deals until... sometime in the future.
When do they get around to posting the upcoming season's rates?

After they're approved by the CEO? ;)

Of course, it's worth noting that the price you pay at Breakers is mostly for the location. You won't likely find any of the rooms to be super upscale.
Depending on the size of your party, the Lighthouse Point cabins can be pretty awesome. Great location (although further from the gate than Breakers) and you get your own kitchen and outdoor grill.
If you have a camper, pop-up, motorhome, etc, I have to give a shout-out to camper village as well. The full-hookup section is the bomb. We take our 39' fifth wheel there and spent probably 20 nights at the campground last year.
Sure, it's still expensive ($80-90/nt) but you can't beat the location, and there's something to be said for staying in your own home-away-from-home, ie no risk of bedbugs or scabies! I've had both multiple times from hotels!
Note, however, camper village does not allow tents of any type.
