In Michigan, so long as you're not speeding in excess of 5mph over the limit, its a points-free violation. In other words, totally worth the risk (for me anyway) to drive about 4-7mph over, all the time. I used to drive a lot faster, but with how steeply fuel economy takes a dive beyond about 60mph, it's no longer worth it to me.

I know several people who have gotten tickets after passing cops at the speed limit when the cop was driving under the limit. There's probably no legal justification for it, but it does happen.
You and your friends seems to have the worst luck with shady cops. If its pouring rain and the officer thinks you're too fast for conditions that makes sense.. But not just for giggles. I hope you fought that one.
By the way, there is a new way for the police in Ohio to test your speed. Visual estimation. :sigh:

I didn't say he couldn't pull you over because he's on a power trip, just not for speeding.

Toledo and the surrounding suburbs is a pretty good area for shady cops. I've dealt with it my whole life. And don't even get me started on how crooked this whole "visual estimation" thing is...

That recent Supreme Court ruling pretty much demonstrates that the current Court has nothing but contempt for anyone except cops and large corporations.
I thought it was at least sporting that the cops had to actually catch you speeding. Oh well.
The path you tread is narrow, and the drop is sheer and very high.
To be fair, that was the Ohio Supreme Court, not the US Supreme Court. Although what you said applies to both.
^Yeah, I know it was the Ohio SC, but your point is certainly taken.

For those coming from MI, we don't use the turnpike at all. US 23 south, take the exit to I-475 east (left exit soon after entering Ohio) to I-75 north (left exit again) to I-280 south (right exit) to US-2 east (exit 7 / right exit). Follow 2 east out of Toledo / Oregon, over the Sandusky Bay Bridge, then you have the option of 3 exits to get to the Point, US-6, US-4, or US-250. Then just follow the signs. Only construction I saw tonight coming that way was about a half mile on US 23 on the Ohio side is down to 1 lane. Otherwise, no construction, no tolls, and it doesn't take any longer than going down to the Turnpike and back up.

That's supposed to be done by July 4th, so it'll be smooth sailing after that.
More annoying than impeding on the drive is the construction on the turnpike that has one lane knocked out.
I haven't encountered any back ups, but it drops down to 50mph in the work zone between the first rest stop and the second between 280 and Exit 118. Again.. Its just annoying and doesn't cause back ups. But it adds 10 minutes easily.
@Chase: I take the route every once in a while. Less stop and go is what attracts me more to the turnpike.
@Ralph: I'm just glad I don't have to drive it anymore. Living in Sandusky does have a few perks. Go figure, I find out about it AFTER we move here and don't have to drive back and forth from MI to come to Cedar Point.
@Prawo: It is a nice drive. Much more scenic than the turnpike, and no tolls to worry about. We still use that route when we go back to MI to visit.
