I agree with you Tiff, we like working at CP because it's fun, and we meet new poeple from all over the US and the world. Yes we do get a lot of hours, compared to other jobs in the area. You can get a summer job at a local hotel, or retail establishment, and only get maybe 40-45 hours, where CP empployees can get 60+ a week. The 30 cent difference isn't that much. Hey Tiff, also check out the post about do you get complaints from employees. I've been trying to get across to this person that merch people weren't getting 2-3 days a week off all season.

Come on guys, don't give up hope yet. We could all use the extra cash.
That is nothing anyone here hasn't already read...in the "What are they thinking" thread. That is from Screamscape and its basically what we have all been talking about on here. One of the posters on here emailed Lance about it. I think its funny how it says Cedar Point is shady. Whoever emailed him put a spin on the story.
if they are forced to pay overtime we're all going to be screwed over though because they won't schedule us for more than 35 hours because of the likelyhood of us getting overtime...so while I hope we get pay for their sake so they don't get into trouble (and yes I'd love that extra pay) I don't mind NOT getting paid overtime...we ARE seasonal...we're an amusement park and we get rehired every year...I get way bigger paychecks at the park then I did get at Castaway Bay for the winter I worked there....because Castaway Bay isn't seasonal...geeez goodness give it a break...

Considering how many trees they've removed, it certainly isn't shady. I'd consider it more along the lines of h*ll with the heat and "un-shadiness" (not a word, I know, but for sake of playing along the word shady).

um and riptide, isn't that why you work there...to get those hours??? well besides all the friends you make and stuff like that...trust me more than likely if we were paid overtime you wouldn't get overtime and you might as well get a second job...sorry I'm done with my rant now...I guess I just don't see how you think you're going to get paid more...the park hasn't opened...we haven't even started getting our contracts...for pete sakes the managers can't even see our apps yet...rate of pay will be figured out well enough...I just want to get back, get my hours and finally save some money again...moving on to other topics

I posted it more as a recap but the focus was meant to be on the point that someone has contacted Cedar Point on how they are not exempt from state minimum wage laws, so that either the pay can be correctly updated or at the very least the employees be given an explanation as to why they are exempt.
I also agree with you Tiffany, plus it would be a major headache for the supervisors trying to keep track of everyones hours. It's hard enough at CB, but think about keeping track of everyone in the Fronts. ewwwww
Well I wouldn't take anything to credit. Just because somebody told him (Lance at Screamscape) that they knew someone from the Department of Commerce had contacted Cedar Point does not really mean its true. His sources are people like you and me. Anyone can email him and he'll post it. Like I've said already, wait until you see something OFFICIAL. ...and by official I mean from Cedar Point or the State of Ohio.
Maybe I'll email Screamscape explaining that I am an official from Cedar Point and that employees will be paid $8.75 this summer. That will put everything to rest finally.

Yes it would be gross...its bad enough not to let them go over the seasonal limit

Well unlike getting paid $8.75, the idea that someone submitted a complaint to the state is not only plausible, but likely. Considering by law, anyone can do so, and the Department of Commerce, Hour and Wage Division must investigate it. I just don't see someone providing screamscape will all the facts we discussed in this thread, but embellishing only the part about the submitting and following through on the actual complaint.

You'd have a point, except they need a certain number of people at each location at all times. I really doubt they'd be able to hire enough people to where they'd have the option to keep everyone under 35 hours. At least in Rides, I've never seen them able to keep anyone under 50 hours, even when they were technically "fully staffed" for a few weeks this summer. Now whether or not they could afford to do it is a different story...

i really don't see it as an issue because we ARE a seasonal company very few percentage of us work full time, I mean I'm there for set up and tear down (well usually) and that's only seven to seven and a half months...but that is a very small crew and most only work averagely may to August so I'm not too worried about them going to over time pay...we'll get our hours...now what pay it will be well I guess we will all find out

Cedar Point has removed their original 2009 Pay Rate from their website! Well atleast I'm getting my fix of CP Drama in the off-season.
Getting rid of the free tickets does not make much sense for the company. It is a benefit that has a $0 cost to the company, yet the perceived value by employees is high. Also remember that even though the company doesn't see any admission revenue from those tickets, the average guest will spend close to $40 while in the park. In almost all cases that I can think of where co-workers had friends come to visit, it was because of the free admission, yet those co-workers would almost always use their friends visiting as an excuse to splurge and eat in restaurants, maybe visit a gift shop, etc.
Sure a portion of those guests that get in free with those comp tickets would have paid had they not had access to free tickets, but there are also a lot of guests who come only because the admission is free and their friend works there.
Even when I worked in the park, my parents only came to the park because they got free tickets. They aren't big amusement park people and much prefer the slow rides of Disney to the thrill rides of Cedar Point, but with the free admission they were willing to make the hour drive to the park to walk around, look at the gift shops, ride CP&LE Railroad, Space Spiral and Paddlewheel Excursions and enjoy the afternoon. And guess what... They paid for parking. They ate at Johnny Rockets. They bought a few drinks and the classic Cedar Point french fries on the midway. If Fascination was still around, they probably would have dropped $10 or $20 in there, as that used to be their favorite past-time at Cedar Point, but even without it, they still probably spent $40 or $50 during their visit to the park. Money that Cedar Point would not see if it had not been for my free admission tickets.

The Screamsters and several high level managers fought to get a few complimentary tickets last fall, since starting last year complimentary employee tickets weren't good after Labor Day. After all, we're kind of the main reason Halloweekends has become the busiest time of the season. Guess who shot it down?
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
I completely agree with that but I know it was mentioned on the site last year when I applied so it threw me off a bit that it was gone now. They redesigned the site but for the most part it is the same information so I doubt I just missed it since I went back and looked a few times after I remembered that I hadn't seen it.
well for one the pay isn't up (well lol now it isn't) yet obviously...so don't hold anything until they get everything figured out. I'm pretty sure it will be soon since managers can apparently start checking apps next week. But of course who knows?
But true about the park tickets, I really doubt they would...I mean like everyone has said if we gave the tickets to people one way or another it brings in money. I bring my younger brother and sister with me almost every year I work and I splurge, this past year I bought them a Maverick cup each, pretzels, some other stuff, and some souvs... another year I used it for not only them but my older sisters as well...for halloweekends...it was a fun night and I wish I could have done that again this past year, I know more people seem to be available to go around that time.
All in all, lol, I'm counting down to when I go back :)

The only issue with extending comp tickets to Halloweekends is that it is now the busiest time of the season, with crowds now easily surpassing peak summer weekend crowds. Offering free tickets during those times does not make sense because revenue producing facilities such as restaurants and in the case of Columbus Day weekend, even parking, is operating at capacity and additional guests will only detract from the overall experience of paying guests.
If it weren't for the location of certain dorms and wardrobe, I would actually suggest that the company even blackout employee access to the park on Halloweekends Saturdays, similar to what Disney does for Thanksgiving, Christmas, MLK and Presidents Day Weekend, Easter Week and 4th of July week. Yes, it is a perk, but the primary purpose of employees is to provide an exceptional experience to our guests, and on peak days, guests should come first.
