2002 season beginning, does anyone remember this d

It was my first trip to cedar point for the season, right around the first few days you were open, and we thought that it would be a empty park. it was cold, and just opened during the weekdays. well this will be a day etched in my memory forever, it was the invasion of the handycapped people. it seemed that 80% of the park was handicapped.

the parking lot was empty except for busses and 200 vansMentally challenged most of them were, like the group homes of ohio and michigan decided to have a field trip that day, it tied up the lines for hours, loading and unloading. etc.. does anyone remember this day? was there more of days like this? i remember that on raptor the ride operator said how was your ride?? one of them answered I WENT PEE... needless to say, i did not sit in that row. plus the added visual of walking into the bathroom and seeing an full size adult on the baby changing table with a nurse/worker changing him was the top of my day.. by the end of the day the rides smelled really bad and we just left early bill( I dont have anything against special people, but that was a day to remember)

If you're talking about ARC day back around May 20 or maybe 21, then I was also there that day - and while it was obviously affecting park operations a bit (for example 2 trains on Magnum and Iron Dragon to avoid all the setups), I'd still bet that CP's capacity on that day was double their competition's down the road.

It appears that you might have gotten the most traumatic of the events, but to be honest, I thought both the park and the workers who were with the handicapped people did a pretty darn good job of getting them on/off rides and minimizing the disturbance as much as possible when there are in fact a lot of them in the park.

And the thing about rides smelling... Smelly people come to ride every day - that day was no different - trust me on that one.

I remember that day earlier this summer. It's so great that Cedar Point is so willing to sponsor events for people who aren't able to travel on their own much, and that the employees were willing to do so much to accomodate them and ensure that they had a good time. I'm sure their visit to the park meant a lot to them; many of them had such severe disabilities that their main entertainment was just watching everything happen around them, since they weren't able to get on many (or any!) of the rides. Just makes you think about how blessed you are if you're considered an "able"
person.

I have to say that I remember the pee incident on Raptor I was there and had to help Clean it up ewww. Thanks for the old memories Bill. I had a question though does anybody have the info for Patrick who worked on Magnum at the begining of the season? If you could help me thanks.

ARC day was tiring to say the least. It took 3 people to run the elevator at Raptor, and the guests who were special access getting mad becouse we would have to hold most of the day half the train at once as there was such a line for our ride. I was ran over by one of the special access people driving a motorized wheel chair, which they left sitting on my foot, while they laughed.There was the pee incident but that wasn't as bad as the "female problem" we had to clean up later this past season. The next morning I found a hearing aid and someone's dentures which were in our ride area.....
