2001 Map..

How much money do you want Cedar Point to spend on these maps may I ask? It's not like the maps are the reason that people come to the park, I don't even bring the stupid things with me into the park and I would bet that a lot of other people don't either. The only purpose of these maps is to show you where to go if you're new to the park, not show you exactly every detail of every ride and attraction in the park.
I like the idea of a photo, but I don't think it would work for a map very well. A lot of people that use the maps haven't been to the park before, or they haven't been in ages, and generally just aren't familiar with it. A photo would show too much of the "clutter" like trees and crowds that will confuse the park or obscure what you might be looking for. I do wish they offered photos - and an ariel would be great for this - framed and matted nicely as a souvenir. I'd buy them all, for sure!

I do agree with you on thing, I never bring the map into the park anyway, in fact last year I did not even see what the map that they give out at the toll booths looked like. I couldn't care less what the map looked like on the park guide.

However, this map will most likely be similar the one used for the poster map that can be purchased in gift shops. I myself like to collect these things and the ones that are less cartoonish I feel are better. It should take no more money to produce a more realistic map. They started in the mid 90's with this trend, and I see no reason why they shouldn't convert back to the old style.'

If CP want's, I'll give them the one I'm drawing for free :)

Granted, the maps aren't for the regulars on this board, but there are plenty of people who use them.

Anyone who visits other parks as a first-timer can certainly relate. For instance, in 98 I was at Dorney for the first time, in 99 it was Valley Fair, last year it was WDW for the first time in 20 years, and this year it will be Knott's and the new Disney California park. In all cases, I'm certain to have a park map in my hip pocket so that I can find my way around.

I don't know if I made my point quite clearly enough. I agree that the maps are for new people to the park or people who haven't been there in a while, that's what I was trying to say in my 1st post. That's why I would not see the point of putting all of those extra details into the map, its only purpose is to show people where to go to get where they want to go. Now, the souvenir maps are a different story. I can see your complaints about those maps having a lack of details. Those are made for the purpose of having a nice souvenir that shows exactly what the park was like in such and such a year. Since people are spending money to buy these maps, I agree that Cedar Point should have more details in those maps, but I don't think the regular park maps handed out at the toll booths need to have all those details. *** This post was edited by Muckmack on 3/10/2001. ***
I see what you mean, Muckmack, and I agree. The "park guide" freebie maps need to have the major rides, restrooms, restaurants, first aid stations, gates, that sort of info, but the souvenir maps should have a lot more, and in my opinion, be a tad more realistic than they have been in recent years. But the little details are important too. I think a good way to do it would be to have the guide maps numbered instead of listing the rides right there, that way you can have more details on them. What if someone wanted to go on the Matterhorn but couldn't find it on the map because it wasn't considered important or big enough? I know for a couple years in the mid-80s at least the big souvenir maps were labeled like that.

I see now muckmack :).

Actually, weren't the old realistic park guides labeled in such a fashion were all you had is the number identifying the ride?
