Rumor that I've read a few times is that CP is hoping to have 20 coasters for 2020.
I think this is doable if they add another kiddie coaster. I'm curious if they add 2 more coasters what rides or attractions may close.
I don't think space is an issue but stafffing and ROI is an issue.
I was impressed that CP shores added quite a bit of staff for their new slides and wonder if that is why they now don't have lifeguards on the beach they also don't have lifeguards stationed at the start and end of the Lilly pad and roaps.
They won't always close a ride with each new ride but they have closed quite a few in recent years.
I'm guessing Dinosaurs Alive and the antique cars are likely to be eliminated.
That's not exactly the issue with staffing. It's that Sandusky isn't a big town with a major college nearby where students can stay for the end of the year past Labor Day and for HalloWeekends.
Kings Island has a big city right near by with 2 major universities from which to pull employees. Carowinds is in (or just outside, I can't remember) a major city with several universities to supply employees. The list goes on. Unfortunately, Sandusky doesn't have that type of population to be able to attract seasonal employees that stay for the entire season.
So the problem isn't "just hire more." It's "where are the people we need to hire?"

Unfortunately, it's not that simple. They already cannot find enough people qualified/willing to work in the positions already available. Adding more positions doesn't solve the problem of not having enough bodies.

I don't think the CP Shores new staff had anything to do with the beach getting rid of the lifeguards. There haven't been lifeguards at the Breakers beach the past couple years.
I personally highly doubt we would see 2 more coasters by 2020.
Even KI has a hard time staffing food service.
Not that CP doesn't like to chase numbers but a new coaster each year is extremely aggressive and not sure what that "20" gets them. Are they really competing with MM for guests?

How much more are you willing to pay for your pass/ticket?

Out of sheer curiosity, where does a rumor like this come from?
The park will be at 18 in 2018. That said, they seem more excited that they can say Cedar Point literally has more rides total than any other amusement park on the planet (79, I think?).
Just having a goal of 20 coasters by 2020 seems like a goal one would find in a roller-coaster game, and not real life. There are other needs, regardless of what calendar year it is and how "cute" it would be to say 20 in 2020.
Most importantly, what would be the point?
I see no value whatsoever in making this something to work towards.
You know what would make me more excited? Pirate Ride 2.0 in 2020
Promoter of fog.
I also think it's a matter of quality. I'm not in favor of Cedar Point neglecting areas of perceived need (obviously enthusiasts and what-not have different goals than the park). There are other areas that I would love to have Cedar Point update that would mean just as much as having 2 more shiny new coasters.
I'd love for them to shore up having a family-friendly log flume. Updating Kiddy Kingdom would be nice. Even just having the Main Midway updated to present a consistent building facade theme would be nice.
Could 2 new coasters bring this type of change? Possibly. I could potentially see a kiddy/family coaster right in front of MaXair with a reconfigured Kiddy Kingdom type area, and potentially a new coaster at the former STR location.
But I feel that's very aggressive for a park that doesn't need to be. I don't think the magical number is 20. I'd rather have a stacked line-up of 6 or 7 quality coasters than 20 mediocre ones (though obviously Cedar Point has more quality coasters than anyone).

By the number of FL+ passes they sell... approximately $95 a day, on top of admission.

Depends, if you go by the term "getting what you pay for" than ill be willing to pay for a quality experience, meaning everything up and running vs paying high dollar and things are down. of course other things come into play with things operating but you get my drift lol
I don't make it to the park that often as I live on Long Island, but paying more for a better trip experience works for me
2019 will be CP's 150th year. 2020 will be their 150th birthday.
Obviously CP will be doing major marketing to take advantage of/celebrate that. I think it's a safe bet CP gets a major addition for it.
This being CP, a major coaster is certainly a possibility. (My vote, not that anyone cares, is take the pool for Snake River Falls and combine it with the land for Shoot the Rapids and put in some type of Aqua Traxx.) Add some type of "Wildcat" type coaster and CP could promote their 150th year and "20 for 20" in consecutive years. "20 for 20" is much more promotable than a Wildcat or a kiddie coaster.
Extra Benefit: Theming a new coaster in SRF's Frontier Town location fits really nicely with a 150th celebration.
Of course the "major" attraction could be something else. Drop Tower was certainly a major attraction. A Frontier Town themed log flume would also mesh well with the 150th promotions.
This Isn't A Hospital--It's An Insane Asylum!
Wouldn't a celebration itself be an adequate way to... umm, celebrate their 150th?
Regardless, I would be surprised if whatever comes in 2019 and 2020 is in FT. They seem to try and spread out new cap ex, rather than spend a couple/few years in a row in one area.

Like what? Maybe a Hootenanny? :P
+ 1 on a old fashioned log flume or a Mack Twist n Splash those are lots of fun for the whole family and don't totally drench you.
I would not mind seeing a sizable gap of time between Steel Vengeance and their next major coaster. Similar to Maverick to Gatekeeper (6 years). Their (soon to be) current coaster lineup is right at or near the top of the pack in terms of pleasing the thrill crowd. The only exception to this would be a mid-size family coaster with an excitement level above Woodstock Express but with a low height requirement.
For a lot of families there appears to be a few year gap where kids are too big for the kid rides but not tall enough for the major rides. I would like to see more mid-level thrill rides with a height requirement below 48". Ideally something around 36-40" max.
Lots of opportunity for the park to add real family rides in the mix. That's where I believe they are severely lacking and hope to see them invest, rather than in more coasters.

All they really have to do is put in a dark ride and my Cedar Point wishlist would be complete.

Valravn Rides: 24| Steel Vengeance Rides: 27| Dragster Rollbacks: 1
My coaster enthusiast wet dream would be to take out snake river and add a Mack Power Splash in 2019 (really cool looking water coaster like at Walibi Beldum) and take out PDFF and Dino's alive in favor of a GCI that interacts with Mille, like Wodan does to Blue Fire. Will it probably happen? No. Would it be absolutely amazing? Absolutely.
CP Top 5: 1) Steel Vengeance 2) Maverick 3) Magnum 4) Raptor 5) Millennium
