10/7/06 Halloweekends: Not Impressed

I will also agree that it was probably the most crowded day i have ever seen there. It sucks because Saturdays in Halloweekends are such a fun time to go.

I agree that rational people don't blame the park simply because it's crowded. Rational people can, however, blame the park for failing to manage such crowds effectively.

Since only part of my trip report dealt with crowds, I was wondering if anyone else agrees that the attractions need to be more professionally done (as in hiring actors that actually do their job effectively).

Cedar Point rocks my socks.

I was their on 10/6 and 10/7 but only until about 12:30 on 10/7. Basically I used my early entry time on Saturday, rode a few other things and then left. You could tell that it was going to be a very busy day.

When I left their was a steady stream of cars coming in down the causeway. This line of cars continued all the way to Kalahari Resort. On the way home we stopped and ate at the Ruby Tuesday in the Sandusky Mall and when we left at 1:30 from the mall the line of cars was backed up to Kalahari. This was mainly due to the single lane closure on 250 but you could look in all the cars and see that almost everyone was headed to the point and had the Michigan plates to match.

I said while we were driving down 250 away from the park that it had potential to be a record day. I know that if I arrived in Sandusky and saw a line like that on 250 I would turn right around and head home because it wouldn't be worth it to go to the park on that day.

On the other hand Friday night was unusually light for attendance compared to previous years. Do they not have a 2 for 1 coupon this year? If this is the case I would imagine this may explain the lighter crowd.

The Tiger game on the Big Screen was cool and I was impressed with how good it actually looked. I was also surprised the park allowed the commercials to be seen by guests. I figured they would cut to a logo of the park or something seeing that the advertisements could possibly infringe on a contract they have with someone. For example I’m sure a Coke commercial wouldn't be a good thing to have projected in a Pepsi park.

Overall we had a great trip, minus the second hand weed we had to inhale at the Comfort Inn by Rt2 & 250 in our hotel room. I couldn't believe that someone didn't come to at least warn the room next to us that smoking illegal drugs in a hotel isn't the best idea.

278 coasters and still counting!

I was in the park on Saturday, and I had never seen it as busy as it was that day. My girlfriend and I left the park at midnight exactly, and it took us 49 minutes to get from the Soak City parking lot to the end of the Chausee. An hour and a half drive quickly became 2 and a half hours, and I was exhausted at the end of the drive.

Perhaps they were trying to prevent Alzheimer's.

I was also at the park on 10/7. This was my first trip durring Hallowweekends so I wasn't sure what to expect.

First the good.

I still fit on MF but just barely. The ride operator needed to help line up the belt for me to buckle. They were very good about helping people how they could. I rode twice once at park opening and once at twilight. Great rides both times.

Decorations around the park. Cedar point really goes all out decorating. The park looked great.

Famous Daves BBQ. First time I went there. Good BBQ a little overpriced but not too bad after getting $10 back from parking. I had 4 rib platter with cole slaw, drunken apples, corn on the cob, cornbread, dessert and drink. Cost $16 after getting the $10 back. It was a great meal that was really filling.

Finally rode Mantis - the line was actually short first thing (right after riding MF). Waited about 30 min. for the ride. That finished out my riding of all the rollercoaster at CP (except Jr. Gemini).

Gemini crew was working well. Didn't see them stacking at all when I was around. Several times they sent them out in times where they could have done 3 train operation.

On the negative side;

The crowds. It was a nice day and everyone was taking advantage of it. I only rode and few rides but decided to spend most of the time enjoying the atmosphere.

The Haunted houses I went on were OK. Nothing spectacular but not bad either.

All in all a good trip.
