1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF...

It is the 1 Year Anniversary of a Top Thrill Dragster Gold Train getting stuck on top of the hill during a test run! It was July 31, 2003 and it was approx. 4PM when it happened. I was standing in line with my dad and the ride was having difficulties clearing the hill. So they closed off the line entrance and kept trying to get the Gold Train to clear the hill. After about 3-4 tries the train was just about to clear the hill, and then you could hear everybody in line hoping it would clear going "Ohh, ohh, come on, clear it!" And then the train stopped! (Remember, nobody was on it, it was a test run). It took about 10 minutes to get a maintenance crew to ride the very slow elevator up to the 420 foot high track. It was unbelievable!!! I wish I had my camera in line, but I didn't. Then finally it was pushed over some how and eventually the ride opened back up. When we got up to the ramp, where the line divides into 2, I asked the lady sitting there that worked for Cedar Point how it was possible to have the Gold Train sit up there. Because I remember watching a television program on Cedar Point saying that wind speads can reach up to 40 MPH on top of the Millennium Force hill, then thinking that Top Thrill Dragster is 110 feet higher and that wind speeds must push the train one way or the other! The lady said that in the book manual or whatever for Top Thrill Dragster it says it is impossible for a train to get stuck on top of the hill, with people on it or not. But it happened!!! With people on it is impossible obviously because weight will shift one way or the other, but it was an amazing sight to see a test runned one get stuck! First time in the history of Top Thrill Dragster, the Gold Train got stuck on top of the 420 foot hill. Later on, the ride opened back up and I waited for front row and ended up getting on the Gold Train. The only proof I have of this occurance is that I met up with one of my friends at Cedar Point that I go to school with in Lexington, Ohio and he saw it too. The next day I was trying to find a picture of it to save, but all I found was, I think a VirtualMidway.com message board where people were saying that a train got stuck on TTD and to look on a Cleveland.com live web cam of Cedar Point to see it, it was a tough angle, but a good debate went on for the people that weren't there on July 31st, LOL. What I really want to know, were any of you season or non-season holders up at Cedar Point on July 31, 2003 to see the Gold Train stuck on top of Top Thrill Dragster? Thank you for your patience reading this long story, I hope for some replies on this. And also, Happy 1 Year Anniversary! LOL
I was also there the day this happened. However, I didn't think it was anything worth an anniversary celebration...Did you make a cake?
I think it is worthy of a celebration...

Well you'de think that if TTD was to get stuck, it would go one way or the other. It's like a Corkscrew getting stuck in the corkscrew or loop...
LOL, no i didn't make a cake, I just thought I would tell everyone because I remembered the date.

LOL, yep u right. Where were u when the train got stuck on top of the hill? On a ride, walking, where?

When it got stuck, was it just balanced on top of the tower? Or... are there breaks up there that I havent noticed.
Ya, im just devestated by the idea that I wasnt there.

*sigh*

It...it was awful, guys. I might need some therapy for this one.

/sarcasm.

I wish there were breaks up there, I'd gladly take one, but i think they'd have to add brakes to be able to break up there.

Sorry, had to throw this in on the old break/brake issue.

be careful, correcting poor grammar gets you made fun of, and apparently you become jealous for not having been at the park that day. ;)
awwwww come on, give me brake im a little board tonight. *** Edited 8/1/2004 4:33:58 AM UTC by WHOEVER***
lol, I got a chuckle out of it..

just a heads up.

I dont go to the park from july 4 to early sept, got a season pass, but experience has taught me may and jun then after labor day is about the best times to go since i usually only have weekends to get there.

One mid july saturday back in 96 a trip to kennywood was a shorter wait than magnum. and this was a dreary overcast rainy day.

Actually, there are brakes at the top of the TTD hill...
I remember when it was being built, we had a discussion of whether or not it was possible that a train could get stuck at the top. I urged people to never say never.

I think it would be great to have a braked up on top and stop for a moment to get a good look at the view. Maybe in 10 years when Dragster is passe then can install the brake and add a new dimension to the ride. I don't think we will ever see it run backward!

There are NO brakes at the top of that hill. Look - http://www.rcdb.com/installationgallery1896.htm?Picture=28 - Where do you see brakes there?
