Wedding at Cedar Point... suggestions?

My fiancee and I hooked up during a cross-country trip where, among other places, we decided to visit Cedar Point. We had a great time and now, a year later, we've decided to get married.

Neither of us like traditional weddings so we decided to do it at the Point on a weekday at the end of August.

Initially, I was hoping we could have the ceremony outside the Millenium Force at either the beginning or end of the operating day. At the conclusion, the wedding party could board the Force and ride either it's first or last ride of the day.

My fiancee spoke to a person in the Media Department (which is where Park Operations directed us). He essentially said the park would not help; though we were free to hold the ceremony and use Freeway to time a quick entry to the Force. So he essentially said the park wouldn't help or stop us.

I was a bit surprised at their lack of cooperation as I had initially imagined that a couple liking their park so much they wanted to get married there would be welcomed. Especially since it would simply involve just letting us hang around toward closing.

I don't really want to have the ceremony outside the Force now as without the park's cooperation there are just too many random elements at risk. However, I would still like to have the ceremony at/near the park; maybe somewhere quiet on the penninsula? I was wondering about the beach, though I've never seen it. I thought we'd maybe have it somewhere quiet at evening, then head off to the Force having gotten a Freeway for 7-8PM.

Does anyone here have any advice on where to have the ceremony? Is the beach a good idea? It will be about 20-40 people. Can you think of anywhere else on the Point/Penninsula that would be interesting/fun, special or quiet?

My fiancee and I will ride out to Sandusky to get our marriage license in July, so we will be able to scout out any reccomendations then.

Thanks :)

Since you really didn't ask, I'll leave the park's probable reasoning for non-involvement alone.

However, as to your quest for ceremony location -- The rotunda in the Hotel Breakers would be kind of cool. How about the gazebo in Frontier Town for an outdoor location?

Why do they call it corn on the cob? That's how it comes out of the ground. They should call that CORN. They should call every other version corn OFF the cob. It's not like if you cut off my arm you would call it "Duane", then reattach it and call me "Duane all together".

They said that they had a policy of not providing "special treatment" for anyone; which is fine; I just still want to figure out a way to do this. :)

I'm not sure if this pertains to you, but I believe (And I'm 99% positive that this is CP's policy) that no formal wear is allowed inside the park other than employees that need it for their jobs. I would definitely check on this, even though the park has said that they wouldn't stop you from riding. I wouldn't want your special day spoiled by something like this. Just a thought. My best wishes go out to you and your significant other.

You could have it on the beach, the part of the beach between Breakers and Sandcastle. That's fairly quiet, and you would have the Magnum for a background.

Hi, I'm assorted's fiancee. Thanks for the attire tip, but they made sure to tell me that people must wear 'park clothes'...I'm gonna make my dress fit that description ;)

You know, if you wanted to have the whole formal wedding thing, and could sacrifice actually being INSIDE the park, you could go over to Battery Park and have the ceremony there. The view from that place is awesome and it's really neat just to sit there and hear the water lapping up at the sides of the park all around you. :) I make it a point (pardon the pun) to go over there at least once a trip now. Could you imagine the wedding photos with MF and the rest of the park in the backdrop? Ahhh.. romance. ;)

There is also a Gazebo down by Sand Castle Suites...A nice secluded part of the park where you can "control" the activities.

I proposed to my wife in the Gazebo at Sand Castle. Nobody bothered me b/c noone knew we were there. There have been weddings at the park, just not sanctioned weddings. You could imagine the amount of requests they would get if it were allowed.

I personally think they are missing a great opportunity at extra revenue by NOT allowing them and charging a nice fee.

Bring a large catered event to the convention center/Coral Courtyard.... I think you'll suddenly get all kinds of cooperation if you're going to bring money.

There is also a nice pier near Lighthouse Point. On a perfect day (no wind), with the sun setting in the backround would be very romantic. Then go to your Horizon Suite room overlooking Lake Erie at Breakers --take your time changing--, and hurry back into the park before it closes!

You could talk to the park and see about using the old ballroom above the main arcade if weather does not permit for an outside wedding.

:)

Good luck and congrats...

I have a question...do you want to wear formal clothing on your wedding day? Because if you don't, then have it at the park...but if you do, then don't. Because a wedding is a once in a life time thing (hopefuly), so you wouldn't want to not dress how you want because of park rules.

Thank you for the tips so far. I thought I would post as a follow up. :)

From the descriptions and my research, I think we're going to go for it on the beach behind the Magnum. On the day of the wedding the Sandcastle will be closed for the season; and the ceremony will be at 7:30pm or so; making that part of the beach fairly deserted I hope. Also, as it is nearing dusk, I'm hoping it will be a nice (pretty) spot.

I'm going to fly out to the Point to scout it at the end of July to see it myself and work out the details (plus get my Ohio marriage license; hehe).

As for formal wear, I think my fiancee's dress IS formal (I don't know I'm not allowed to see it) but probably quite different from the traditional wedding dress. Our plan is to simply find somewhere to change before the ceremony near the beach and we'll change back to "park clothes" after the ceremony. My scout at the end of July will cover seeing if a "changing area" will be easy or a problem (i.e: if the beach is accessible from the Soak City parking lot without passing through a park gate then we will simply change in the pass van we have rented). As this section of the peninsula should be pretty much deserted I'm hoping there won't be any problem.

So for now my only concern is whether the Point people, with 30-40 people gathering on the beach, will decide to try to stop the ceremony for some reason. As previously mentioned, they said they would neither help or stop me, so I'm going ahead.

Thanks again for the site tips. Though I'm pretty set on the beach I'm going to check every location mentioned here when I scout this month.

Just out of curiosity did they say you're welcome to get a "FASTPASS" or you're welcome to use "freeway?"

If they said "FASTPASS" (like the MF crew says daily) that'd could start copyright infringement bull crap since the registered trademark "FASTPASS" is owned by Disney.

My bad. I've re-edited to change 'fastpass' to 'freeway'. As it was my fiancee who spoke to them i don't know and she doesn't remember what term was used. But using the term 'fastpass' in my post was simply my mistake. As she was speaking to someone in the MEDIA department I can't imagine he would use the wrong term. I think it's true though that my previous vocabulary mistake is related to the fact that FastPass is a much more intuitive and descriptive term for it's function then FreeWay. It's very easy to slip; hehe.

A suggestion:

Camper Village will still be open. You could change in their restroom/shower facilities. The closest to the area of the beach in question would be in Circle B. Take a look while you are there.

You wouldn't have to pass any gate areas to walk the short distance from there to the beach.

One's wedding day is a very special day, and I think CP should be honored to help some of their fans tie the knot at their park. It just seems weird to me. Who would honestly care if they saw a wedding party get on a ride without waiting, right after they said their vows? I think most GP would think that's pretty darn cool, and that they would go back and tell all of their friends about it. It's not like other people are going to start getting married at CP just so they can cut the MF line. Regardless, I think it's a great idea, and I would put in a vote for the beach as well. That would be a great setting.

Guess they won't cooperate when I get married on Magnum, either :(

Congratualtions on your upcoming wedding :) I'm sorry that Cedar Point will not help with you with you iedal wedding but it looks like you got it all set. Someone mentioned having it in the ballroom if the weather doesn't pan out. I just wanted to add to that. You could also hold in the conference room in Breakers East. That's thru guest accomodations and they may be a bit more willing to help out than the Media department. Once again, congratulations :)

Kara!! I'd think you'd want to get married in Timbers!! I'm shocked!

Anyway, if CP isn't much willing to let people get married on one of their rides, I'll bet they won't let my family spread my ashes over the park when I'm gone.

Maybe put your ashes into an urn (I think thats it?) and put that into the CP Museum :)

Congratulations on the Wedding! May there be many years of coaster riding and many more on kiddy coasters too :)
