Duct tape?

This may sound weird, but did anyone notice the duct tape holding some kind of ring onto the coaster track, behind the load area? My friend and I joked about how it was Opening Day and the ride was already being held together by duct tape. Or maybe I'm wrong. Does anyone know why that was there?

I noticed it on media day as well. Friend and I were joking about it as well. Must be something about Intamin & duct tape! ;)

Hehehe! Duct Tape will be replacing Steris (the goo makers) as a Cedar Point sponser this year... ;)

As I said in another thread, I believe it was what they covered the track with while hoisting the track section into place.

Actually I never noticed the Duct Tape on WT before than someone mentioned it.

I will not mention what department I worked for, but duct tape is a universal repair tool on the rides.  Last year when the lift cable to Millenium snapped, they held it together with duct tape and electrical tape for an entire week until they could get a replacement cable, and still ran the ride for that entire week.  Makes you feel safe, huh?

It's impossible to hold the MF lift cable together with duct tape. Someone gave you a bunch of BS.

Actually I was there and saw it for myself. The lift cable is made up of 3 smaller cables intertwined. One of the three completely broke and fell to the ground right next to the tension pulleys. They shut it down for the rest of the day to figure out what to do. Since they did not have a replacement cable, the duct taped the frayed ends of the broken strand back to the other two. They ran it for a week like this, shutting it down every 2 - 3 hours to redo the duct tape. I was there at least once every day to watch them do it.

That makes more sense now. I thought you meant that the cable was complete snapped in two, and the duct tape was supporting the tension of the entire cable and train.
