Hotel Breakers remodel?

I hear that. I routinely stayed at Royal Pacific Resort pre-Potter, when it never got overly crowded. I did have one bad experience there, but otherwise it was definitely a different league.

I again wonder how much Breakers being seasonal plays into how it is, like there's just inherently less of an incentive to really invest into a facility that's never been a year-round resort.

On that note, I'm curious how Castaway Bay and Sawmill Creek have been holding up.

The last time we stayed at Breakers (it's been awhile; maybe 7 years?) we couldn't open the mini-fridge completely due to how it was positioned in the room, so anytime we wanted to put something in or take something out we had to move the fridge, complete the task, and then move it back. There were no other rooms to move us to.

That was the last time we stayed at Breakers, and the cost has absolutely soared since then. We used to be able to score some pretty great deals early (late-May, early June) but those seem to have gone by the wayside.

I totally get why some would value being on-site though. Just kind've sad that they could really make that place a total gem.

How are the Lighthouse Point cabins doing these days? At first glance the reviews look good. But then when you separate the camp sites vs the cabins... it appears the cabins are struggling just as bad as Breakers.

It's been a few years since I've stayed in the cabins, but in my experience they've been fine for what they are. It's nothing to write home about, but in a "camping" environment I think expectations are lowered.

If you've stayed down the street at Sawmill, they redid those rooms kind of cheap. They're not uncomfortable, but they are kind of budget.

We almost stayed at Sawmill a couple weeks ago. Just couldn't pass up our Huron local on the water, but maybe next time.

We have never stayed in the cabins, but we have consistently had good experiences in the waterfront cottages at Lighthouse Point.

We've been staying at the cottages since 2001 and it has almost always been a positive experience.

As for Castaway Bay, we stayed overnight there in late May. It wasn't overly busy at that time and everything went well at check-in. The common areas were tidy and I noticed plenty of "housekeeping" activity taking place. Our room was very neatly adorned and sufficiently cleaned to even pass inspection from Mrs. jimmyburke. In busy season I can imagine the wear and tear these rooms get from the clientele that frequent the place, numerous rambunctious kids and even adults as well.

I had one unclean cottage at LHP, but I had just run into John Hildebrandt who said to call him if anything wasn't great. So I did. Doesn't hurt to know people sometimes. That was the same trip where we were running to the train and the op literally locked the gate while he saw us, triggering a meltdown of my then-3 kid. You never know if a guest is gonna have the GM's ear, and I know they learned all about it that day. I don't generally try to call in favors, but messing with my family changes the rules.
