Does this still exist? I remember it was a large fry and a small fry for a decent price. Included chili/cheese too!

It did last year. Beginning of the year they newbies typically do not know about it. I hope it still is there this year!

I'm completely shocked that they're charging ten bucks for those fries. That's insane. You can get the essentially the same thing at the fish & chips stand in Epcot for $5.25.

Wasn't it like back in '12 it was a thing? For $10 you got two medium drinks, a chili cheese fry and a regular fry? All you had to say was 'The Platinum Pass Deal'

Fun times.

I have the drink plan. Last week I was at the park and stopped at Friars for my favorite fries.
The boat seemed a lot less full than in previous years, but I pass no judgement until next time.
And that’s as long as I can afford it. My fries and a cup of cheese ran 11 bucks. And there was no toothpick stuck on top.
I should also mention that my last trip to Taco Bell ran almost 12 dollars for a nacho bell combo and a nothing-fancy burrito signifying, I suppose, the end of the 6 dollar all-you-can-possibly-eat sack of cheap Mexican.
And a week or so before that I had the shock of my life when I went into Five Guys (I never go there) and got a plain burger, no cheese, a “little” fry with no topper (I didn’t want a bag full of fries for just me), a small Freestyle, and a chocolate shake that was probably 12 oz. It came to a whopping 24 dollars and there was a space for a tip.
Something is happening.

This is like a fun game show. For $100, would you rather...

Door 1: Four meals from Five Guys

Door 2: Ten orders of less-than-previous-years' amount of fresh cut fries

Door 3: An entire summer's admission to Cedar Point

Would you still say door #3 if they keep adding restaurants and family attractions instead of rollercoasters?

Guess I am surprised that others are surprised that parks with more ways of getting people to spend money have different pricing strategies. Maybe its also surprising to some that Cedar Point resorts and pools don't look like Disney resorts and pools. ;)

It's pretty telling that when I went to the park the other week, I was perfectly content eating at the McD's before the causeway for under $5 and then subsiding entirely on the drink plan while inside the park. I don't think anything the park offers is must-get food for me anymore, even the Happy Friar fries for nostalgia's sake or the cheese on a stick for cholesterol's sake.

I don't think that's necessarily the park's fault so much as it's changing tastes, a pragmatic response to the arena pricing of most food items relative to the quality of what you get, and just not feeling like I need it to complete a CP trip. Certainly no more than finding Dole Whip in non-Disney contexts has made it so I no longer need to seek that out when I go to WDW is Disney's fault.

McDonald's is barely passable as food. The stuff CP is selling now is next level. There was actually a line the other day waiting for Backbeat to open. The food at the new Farmhouse location is epic. Melt is a Cleveland classic (though I wish they would make the good fries like the other locations). I hear the mac-n-cheese place at the front is also a big deal.

That said, the fries are not a good deal. I can get the same thing at Epcot in the UK fish-and-chips stand for $5.25.

I think I could've phrased it better as it did come off like I was implying that there was no objectively good food in the park, and honestly I don't disagree about McD's but definitely it's a you get what you pay for there.

I do agree that Melt is awesome but at least for me it's tempered by living in NEO so it's already familiar for me, plus, it's not the most ideal for me stomach-wise if I want to ride anything for a few hours afterwards. I do need to give the Farmhouse a proper looksee, and I do need to properly compare Famous Dave's and Backbeat again. I'd also honestly be down for CP aggressively recruiting more local/regional chains as well, like, I dunno, a Winking Lizard instead of the Breakers Friday's or something.

They don't need more chains. When they hire chefs and full-time managers at these new restaurants, magic happens. They need more of that.
