A false narrative to be sure.

Let me come at this from a different way. If Trump had issued guidance or an order to lock down the country while the senators were getting ready to vote on impeachment (early February), how do you think that would have played out?

If Trump had done the same during the Democrat primaries, right before Super Tuesday in particular, how do you think that would have played out? “Folks, don’t go vote to see who will run against me, just stay home”

it’s a no win scenario.

Yet in late feb, Pelosi was encouraging her constituents to flood SF for a celebration and parade.

That's because the White House didn't suggest no gatherings of 10 or more people until March 16th.

Speaking of false narratives...

...Trump was briefed on the potential effects of a panvirus in December and January. He chose to take no action, sentencing thousands to death.

(You might guess I'm not a fan of Trump; you would be right. He's an inept, incompatant President and a man who managed to bankrupt casinos.)

If Trump had issued appropriate orders while facing impeachment, he would have been a responsible President, not the Narcassist In Chrage that he is.

Ah, Ok got it. That’s hardly political cover for Pelosi to decry Trump for not doing something sooner. Pretty hypocritical if you ask me.

I don't really care what Pelosi did or said, I was just pointing out that there wasn't much of a thought of not going out and being in groups in February because of all this. Theme parks were open, sports were happening, people were gathering.

How is it hypocritical? Trump is President, not Pelosi (although America would be far better off if she was).

It was not really an issue then, as evidenced by Pelosi’s comments.

What was Trump supposed to do? Shut down the country when there were a couple dozen cases? Did you even see the backlash when he closed travel from China when there were very few cases?

Democrat governors who hate him are left with no choice to praise his response to this virus. Same goes for Fauci who has worked for 6 presidents. I get that some of you hate trump but come on. Who would have handled this better? Bernie? Biden? OBAMA? Do you not remember his swine flu fiasco that he so badly bungled?

Please describe and, especially quantify, “far better off”

Imagining Pelosi as President makes covid seem like the sniffles.

Trump didn't do anything wrong, he saved lives.

He was called a racist and Xenophobe because he closed off the planes from China on January 31st.

That saved us thousands of lives.

Just think if Cuomo would have closed down the subway in New York, that too would have saved thousands. I'm not calling him a racist or bad person, he just did what he thought was correct.

A couple of people on this site have called Trump a racist just because of their political views.

The WHO (prop political arm of China) assured us this was nothing to be concerned about. Even the top US infectious disease experts were not concerned at that point

Trump is a leader. He is not a scientist. He relies upon the panel of experts who advise him. They failed. More specifically, China’s lies deceived us and cost many unnecessary deaths.

Calling that out publicly makes me neither “racist” nor “xenophobic”

Either liquor or lack of education has definitely kicked in. I’m going with the latter on this one but hope I’m wrong, as I’m sipping on a bourbon and don’t want to be in bad company.

First of all, since when is his getting impeached for breaking the law an excuse for him to not do his damn job? And before you cry "fake news" recall that even Trump's lawyers (and cuckolded GOP senators) were NOT arguing that Trump did not break the law, since it was blindingly obvious that Trump had, in fact, broken the law. They were arguing that in addition to the President being above the law, also that it was, like, totally uncool to impeach a President in an election year.

In any case, that's a hilariously incompetent defense. No one is suggesting that Trump should "shut down" the Country in December or whatever. What people are upset about is that US leadership wasted more than TWO MONTHS of time that could have been spent preparing for the pandemic that was inevitably coming.

Two months that could have been spent building ventilators. Two months that could have been spent ramping up testing capabilities. Two months that could have been spent readying a contact tracing infrastructure. Two months that could have been spent manufacturing N-95 masks. Two months that could have been spent preparing the Navy hospital ships for deployment.

But, of course, Trump, who you champion as "a leader" did NONE of those things. Instead of leading he continued having his pathetic rallies. Instead of leading he continued to insist that COVID would disappear in April, because Jared said so. Instead of leading he continued to resist calls from experts within his own administration to prepare. Instead of leading he ignored a cacophony of scientists and experts telling him he needed to do something. Instead of leading he completely failed catastrophically in the most crucial moment of his Presidency.

And what's worse is that instead of realizing that Trump has some critical, consequential shortcomings, his zealots have been spending the last several weeks trying to rewrite history and blame this all on China, or Pelosi, or whatever the latest directive from FOX News is.

If people were not actually dying as a result of Trump's incompetence it would be a somewhat amusing spectacle. But people are dying as a result of Trump's incompetence.

It's a damn tragedy that was completely avoidable, but please tell me again how this is all China and the NYT's fault.

You are probably right. I don't see them opening until herd immunity is achieved. That means that a vaccine.

While the death rate is quite low, it's still too high to justify opening a ride park.

LOL PELOSI SHOULDA!!!!1!!

Does anyone inappropriately touching Trump have any idea how the government works? You know, the difference between the executive branch and the legislative branch?

Sorry, your boy is a moron. That's not because of my politics. I can identify good leadership when it rises to the occasion regardless of party affiliation (i.e., Gov. DeWine). Trump takes responsibility for nothing, blames others for everything. He is an autocrat and a narcissist, and at least one of those things, with your flag waving and liberty loving, should cause you concern.

At a time in America when we most need an emotional leader, maybe more than we need a rationale leader, we have neither. I don't care about politics. I haven't cared about politics in a long time. This guy is, has been, and always will be, in way over his head. It has been painfully obvious since early on and the fact that he can't keep good people around him is all you need to know. Good leaders attract talent. What have we witnessed at the White House for the past four years?

I understand the appeal to some Americans of this outsider, and any outsider for that matter, but the experiment isn't working. It was a cute and entertaining distraction during the campaign and debates. It was an awkward oddity (let's see how this plays out) during the first year or two. Now it is just doing too much harm and I fully understand that those with blinders on won't be able to see past their unwavering support of him. After all, he could walk down 5th avenue and shoot someone (after grabbing her by the ******) and nobody would care.

If Pelosi were president, we'd have a competent, intelligent leader in the Oval Office rather than the president we currently have, who is in way over his head, sees being president as an opportunity to line his pockets (there's a reason so many 'official government' functions take place at Mar-A-Lago)...

...and at risk of repeating myself, the man is so incompetent he managed to run casinos into bankruptcy; businesses where people go and freely give mountains of money to the casino owner, most of which the casino keeps.
