Six Flags makes an offer to purchase Cedar Fair?

I received a notification just now from a stock app I follow about a Reuter’s report on Six Flags making a cash and stock offer to acquire Cedar Fair. Apparently, CF is considering it.

I wasn’t going to put much thought into the rumor until I saw that CF shares have been halted from trading temporarily. This usually happens when rumors of acquisitions come up, however Wall Street only does so if there is validity behind them.

The Reuter’s article is behind a pay wall, so here is a free preview version. https://www.google.com/amp/s/nationalpost.com/pmn/technology-pmn/si...ources/amp

Please, NO!

I also saw the rumors floating around social media. I can only hope the deal goes belly up.

That certainly livens up the typical Wednesday.

I can't even imagine Cedar Point under Six Flags ownership. Let's just hope this is fake news.

Wells Fargo just refuted the rumor, but it’s all a bunch of speculation for now.

As an Ohio native and classic Cedar Point fanboy, I can't describe how devastating this news would be. Cedar Fair always was the "little chain that could" and watching it grow through my childhood and adult years has been special. I know that we never really put it this way, but in many ways Cedar Fair is Cedar Point. The company was developed because of the success of the park. Many people go to Kings Island, Carowinds, Knotts, etc. and don't say Cedar Fair- they say "Cedar Point owns this park..."

It certainly will be fun to watch how this develops...

Want to watch the amusement park industry go in the gutter for the consumers? This is how it happens. May as well just have Disney buy up every major chain if this goes through.

I've been hoping for years that Cedar Point would finally loosen up on their god awful and unnecessary rain policy. But not by doing this.

If you think I complain now, just wait if Six Flags takes ownership of this park.

Looney Tunes this, Superman that, Larson Looper here etc........

They are the worst at running amusement parks.

$ 99.00 gold pass makes a lot of sense right now, if Cedar Fair had inkling of doing this, I can see why they dropped the price of the standard Cedar Point pass. That would be a typical accounting move on their end.

To be continued...........

The ONLY good thing that would come out of an acquisition would be CP food services would improve.

But that is ALL, it would be dismal for the rest of the chains operations.

Many are now claiming “merger” which would lead to a totally different discussion. Their CEO is about to retire, so merging the chains and maintaining headquarters in Sandusky with Zimmerman and team in charge and Texas as a satellite corporate office with a mix of Six Flags talent is what I would hope for- but again- not really liking any of this discussion.

^^To me, CP has improved their food services, greatly and is one of the things I like about that park. But, 6 Flags does give the snack with its meal plan. The smokehouses at CP are really good. Maybe not quite SeaWorld Orlando or Busch Gardens Tampa, great, but still pretty good.
