Cedar Point Trip Question

Pointbuzz hive mind:

I'll be at Cedar Point on 29th June (my birthday!). I haven't been in a few years. I'll hit the coasters I haven't ridden yet, a ride on Blue Streak at sunset, and spend time in Forbidden Frontier.

But what else should I make sure to hit? I've read good things about the new restaurants, so one of those will be on the agenda.

Make it a point to check out the beach, especially if you haven't been since the Breakers renovation.

Ditto what DJ said, they have put a lot of time and effort into making that beach better every year. I've been going to the park since 1984, and just recently started hanging out at the beach as it's been taken care of so much more within the last 5 years. Hell, I even swam in the lake last season for the first time ever.

As far as restaurants go, I have yet to try Hugo's or BackBeatQue, but I hear both are excellent additions. If the brisket @BBQ is the same as last year, it's very good. I'm also a sucker for a pulled pork mac n cheese bowl from the place under the SkyRide station which is also newer.

Lastly, make sure to hit Steel Vengeance at least twice if you can, once during the day and once at night. Two different ride experiences imo. Hope you have a good visit, and welcome back.

DRE420, it's impossible to not have a good visit to Cedar Point!

Well, there was that one year when power went to the front of the park, my brother was in the back of the park, and my mother had a melt down inside of Fascination.

I digress. I will check out the beach and the Breakers and we'll see what's appealing at the new restaurants.

Thanks!

Noggin, you said you haven't hit the park in a good while, so if you can fit the waterpark in your time, I'd recommend you do so. Point Plumment and Portside plunge are new.

Maybe. I'm not a big fan of waterparks, I've only been to three in my life and only because they were included in an event registration: Soak City at CP, Dollywood's Splash Country and Disney Blizzard Beach.

People keep trying to roll the beached whale into the water :-)

I'll second that- Plummet is great fun, long as you aren't claustrophobic (in which case a tube slide wouldn't be your thing anyway.) Shores overall is really nice, and (at least as of last year) Crystal Rock is one of the best places to eat in the park.

Surf Lounge is also a great place to grab a drink- always lively conversation and friendly bartenders who'll make you most anything, including a knockout Pina Colada.

Edit: You replied before I did. Forget Plummet, but my statements on Crystal Rock and Surf Lounge stand. :)

Between BackBeatQue by Magnum and Hugo's in the former Midway Market I would recommend the bbq joint. I was thought the Italian dishes served at Hugo's were nothing more than meh at best. Of course I was there opening day and am willing to give them another go. However, the bbq I had at BackBeatQue was very good.

You'll be there just in time for the new Frontier Festival too!

If you haven't been since before they started the Brew&BBQ event this is a new "updated" and expanded version of that. I really enjoyed the previous event so I'm sure this one will be a hit.

We had a horrible experiance at Back Beat Que. The chicken was undercooked and rubbery and the cat fish was dry and way over salted. They were out of everthing else. Luckily we had a BOGO coupon from Forbidden Frontier so we only threw $14 of food in the trash.

They seem to be inconsistent. Portions seem to vary even though they weigh it! I have only had the brisket (5 times!) and it was fair to good.

You mentioned blue streak at sunset. I’ve always found Magnum to be a wonderful sunset ride. And I play I Spy with my car in the back lot.

The thing to get at Back Beat Q is the smoked pecan pie. Uh-mazing.

So very sad that you can still see the whip marks on the brisket...

.

If you want BBQ at CP, Famous Dave's is about your only hope for consistant quality IMHO.

Noggin, I hope that you like the positive changes in the park!

Seriously.... I was shocked at how good Ms. Keats was last year. It was an absolute shock coming from CP food services, I hope they can continue and expand the quality throughout the park. Offering something truly unique, instead of the generic half-assed corporate poorly franchised concept is a welcome surprise from CP. (I wonder if the Daves at CP is a franchise or a corporate store, the chain is trying to offload its corporate owned stores. Could be a fantastic opportunity for CP if that location opens up.)
