2019 Cedar Point Schedule

I suspect a significant portion of the food ordered around closing by the front gate is guests using up their dinning plan. There are much better, faster and cheaper options just off the peninsula.

A lot of work went into building that F&I venue to use it for just 2 seasons but I defer to your expertise Rideman.

Personally will really miss the 11PM closings as night is my favorite time at the park even just walking around. However my kids are usually done and ready to head home by 10 or earlier. On the bright side millions of mayflies will be saved. 😂

We rarely stayed until 11 on those late nights but we did usually make a point to go at least once a year later to really enjoy the lights and shorter lines. But as most other things with short lines, it means fewer people, and therefore less reason to run their business at that time.

Not really, relatively-speaking. It is basically a concrete pad.

I may be misremembering my first year at SFWoA in 2001 but I swear our operating hours were 11a-11p. I always thought that was a great schedule, especially as an employee.

Being a CLE resident I almost never make it to Point Monday-Thursday due to the 10p close. But later weeknight closings of 11p I would make the effort to head out. But again I'm sure they have the data to support the decision to stick with the earlier opening time and shave hours off the evening. It's just a bummer cause I personally enjoy the atmosphere of parks at night much more than in the morning.

Conversely if they had the data to justify 10pm closings, wouldn’t they also have had the data to justify 11pm closings instituted under Mr. Ouimet?

It is likely a cost savings measure to bolster the bottom line after a disappointing year.

As an on point resort guest during our visits, there isn’t much to do after these early closings. Nightlife has gotten somewhat better with the addition of Surf Lounge and the fire pits to socialize at, however it would be nice if they would add something for an entertainment option to go along with your $350+ a night room. Met plenty of great people at the fire pits looking for anything to do at night.

We have taken in the nightlife downtown which is pretty lacking to put it nicely and at Louie’s which can be fun depending on the crowd. I was always kind of hoping they’d turn that old breakwater cafe into a nightspot or build another one somewhere by the resort area.

‘Parks closed, go to bed’ is a kinzle-esque era frame of mind. Ouimet understood the possibilities with expanding bar service and later night offerings, likely appreciated from tenures at Disney and Starwood.

To that point, it would be nice if there were some nightlife offerings on Rt. 6 at the end of the causeway. Right now there's the Pony, Quaker Stake & Lube, a small sushi place, and some very poor hotels. If someone were to put a big night club there with drinks & entertainment, and have a shuttle to/from the resorts, I feel like they could do very well during the season. Heck, even a casino. Admittedly the off-season wouldn't be very good. But the bars at Put-In Bay manage to stay in business, so it seems possible.

Sooooo I’m confused... Did you make it out to CP for the 11pm closings during the week? Or are you saying you would if they were open till 11pm, as in you didn’t know they WERE in fact open till 11pm last year?

Bars in Sandusky would never do the business bars at Put-In-Bay do. The visitors at PIB have beer for breakfast and that's before the hard core drinking starts.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Like someone else mentioned, this is nothing new. I know in years past, they would cut hours for year or two and then add back advertising park now open longer. I can't remember what year it was, but the hours were actually about the same total for season. Some days were cut back while adding hours to other days.

Sure I love late hours for nighttime riding. But we have to remember this is a family resort and most families are probably wiped out by night and leave the park to head back to hotel. Kids are more gung-ho in the mornings and will drive the parents crazy if they have to wait longer to go in park and ride.

Something else I liked when years ago (while still single) I would get up early and drive the 2 hrs 45 min to CP to be there at opening. I would ride for 2 hrs and leave by noon and be back home in time to go into work at 3pm. I did that many times. Sounds crazy but I was always in good mood at work! :)

How about a $ 3.00 breakfast sandwich stand in front of the Midway Market, the food can be made in there, have a cart outside and sell the sandwiches between 8:30 and 11:00. Even though I have a dining plan, I would fork over $ 3.00 for that sandwich to hold me over until 11:00.

Many people are standing there between 8:30-9:00 and 9:00 to 10:00.

Ideas like that add to the bottom line.

Fixed that for you. At least be realistic.

When do people in food department usually come in? If memory serves I believe some come in quite early for stuff like the employee cafeteria.

^ That would be fine except they don't let the guests into that area until 8:45am. At 8:45 they start scanning at the gates, that is when guests then walk to the second crowd barrier just past Raptor entrance. I the sandwich stand was open & operating it likely would do brisk business. I would be fine with it as I wouldn't patronize it whether it was $3.00 or $9.00. The number of patrons waiting 10 minutes for their order would allow me to move toward the front of the entry line a tad further.

Actually I think many of the guests who are at that area at that time are ones waiting for the Anthem to end so they can sprint to SV or MF.

I remember in 2007 and 2008 when, for the first two weeks in May (not counting the weekend, of course) the park closed at 7:00! I can't remember if they opened at 10:00 or 11:00, but we had the BEST visits during those times. School was still in session and we pretty much had the place to ourselves. At least, that's what it felt like.
