So, after stopping into guest relations and speaking with Alex, he called operations who said, the carousel is closed for maintenance, but they're not sure if it will open again this Year.

I saw that too on Sunday. It looks very extensive whatever happened to it. The picture doesn't do it justice on how extensive the wood supporting is. Its a major project that is going on.

Is it too much to hope for a return to an authentic organ? :)

Overall, I would say the carousel has been pretty reliable this year. Very little downtime, and Cedar Point maintenance seems to have (mostly) figured out how to keep it going, at least as much as one could expect.

Glad we got our spins in earlier in the season!

Based on the supports they have added, they appear to be removing all of the weight off of the main spindle or possible the gear mechanism that actually causes the articulation of the animals on the ride....Jason perhaps you may know as I can't tell based on the picture, but did the wooden platform appear raised from its normal point and was it even all the way around?

I posted this to a carousel group on Facebook to see if anyone has any more scoop on what may be going on. Sad to see a 1921 classic laid up, but it's awesome that its located in a place that is able to afford to fix it the right way.

The carousel is so old that the part that is broken needs to be custom rebuilt. It will take some time to reproduce. The failed part is weight bearing and needs to have the whole carousel elevated to fix it which is why you see all the support work.

Was just going to follow up that I found out it is, indeed, getting a bearing replacement.
