Reality provides a depth of field that 3D glasses, virtual reality goggles, etc currently do not. Even when your mind is tricked into thinking it's looking beyond (or in front of) the screen, your eyes are still focused at the same fixed distance. For some, this effect can be rather unpleasant.

They have a antimicrobial face pad that gets cleaned between each use.

This is usually talking about extended periods of time. This may cause a headache if you're in VR for an hour or more, but we're talking about a 2 minute ride here. I'm sure there are exceptions, but for the vast majority of people it will have no affect on them for the 2 minutes they're wearing it.

The headsets used at SF yesterday were being cleaned after each use by associates using alcohol wipes. They were not sweaty at all. If SF can keep things clean I'm positive that CF can do the same.

I don't think Iron Dragon would be a good candidate (I don't think this is a good idea in general) for VR because the swinging isn't controlled. I've had rides where the swinging is mild, and rides where the swinging is pretty wild...

Mild & wild swinging? YEAH, BABY! YEAH!

Anyway... The ride isn't exactly the same every time so it's gonna be impossible to sync VR to Iron Dragon.

Overworked, understaffed, entry-level payscale teenagers standing in between me and pinkeye or shingles. I'll pass on the headset wiped with a wet nap.

That reminds me.

This year I have seen a lot more training on popular attractions than ever before. I wonder if the turnover was higher than usual from last season.

I still don't fully understand all the concerns about cleanliness related to the VR headsets. On Iron Dragon, wouldn't the silver handles on the restraints be at least equally, if not more "dirty" since every person that sits in a seat touches them?

Yes, but I am not rubbing my face and eyes on the handrails.

But I'm sure there are some people that run their face on the OTSRs. I would think those would be just as bad as a VR headset would be.

OTSRs are exposed to the suns UV rays and the wind and are not enclosed in a strapped on over the face mini-sauna. Also, I've never seen anyone rubbing there open eye on a restraint, people will be purposefully holding their eyes open in a VR headset as much as possible.

So, yeah, OTSRs, just as bad, if not worse. :)

Have you seen any little kid ever ride a coaster with OTSRs when the train stacks?

I see people rub their eyes after getting off of a ride all the time. And I guarantee they don't sanitize their hands after every single ride.

By the way, I'm not sure why some people here think that because ride ops are "overworked" they will overlook the safety and sanitization for all guests. If that was the case, then how do you feel about your life being in a ride operators hands every time they dispatch a ride unit? Not to mention, a large portion of ride operators (and almost everybody in leadership) is 20 and over. Just saying.

The same 20 year olds that the federal government and all 50 state governments do not believe have the proper judgement to have a glass of wine at dinner or enjoy the Brew part of Brew & BBQ in a responsible manner?

I think most ride operators are between 18 and 24. How many of them did not get enough sleep the night before and have a hangover?

Can confirm that they were doing more soft trials today on Iron Dragon, Also seeing it all over twitter that they were testing it on riders today as well. One of the In The Loop podcast hosts (Drew) posted some pictures on his Twitter as well. Have yet to see a review from any of them but Iron Dragon VR can be confirmed to at least be testing.

^^ Well, THAT explains why Iron Dragon had a full queue today.
