Handicapped Passes-How and where?

Hi all,
I am going to the point this weekend but have to wear a knee brace due to a torn ACL. I want to ride but can't just stand in line for 1 or 2 hours without a lot of pain. Can I qualify for one of the handicap ride passes? If so, what do I need to take-doctors note,etc or do I just tell them the problem and get the pass? Also, is it good only for me or the other 3 people in my party as well?

All you have to do is pick up the safety guide. That guide has the special boarding pass in it. The safety guide is available at Guest Services, Town Hall, and Park Operations.

What you do is once you get the guide go to a entrance of a ride and have the operator at the entrance sign it. Come back at the time the operator said but when you come back enter through the exit.

Also consult the guide before going to any rides, since you may not be able to ride certain rides. I will try to find my safety guide and find out which rides.

It's a good time to ask since on Wednesday I was with my uncle in a wheelchair. An electric wheelchair was like $40 to rent for the day. They give you a sheet with the coasters listed and you have the opportunity to ride each 3 times using it. What will happen is that you go to the entrance they will still have you wait the length of the line, just not in it. You can also chose to wait for the front or back for extra time. So, say MF has and hour wait and 30 min for the front seat. In an hour and 15 min you come back and get in line starting at the ramp in hte queue line. You wait until you get to the exit station and board inside there. You get to ride the extra 20 ft of track too!! It worked great since you could ride other things while "waiting" for the one you're signed up for.

I think the only ride you should worry about is Mantis. Since you have to ride standing up. Having several G's pushing down on your knee probably won't do it any good.

I did Mantis with a broken ankle last year and didn't have any real problems... a torn ACL could be a little different though...

Handicapped access does have to wait the length of the line, just like force312 said, but not in the line itself because either certain conditions would be painful/harmful, or if you have to have a wheelchair you can't get up and down the stairs or through the tight queues. But CP's policy is a good one.

Seriously though, I'd love to be handicapped and go to CP, no line ride access!

That has to be one of the most short-sighted, selfish comments I've ever seen.

Sorry, that may be harsh, but as someone who's *technically* handicapped but doesn't consider himself as such (right Lori? ;) ) I'm GRATEFUL every single day that I'm as healthy as I am...

And DON'T just get the rider safety guide, like Andrew said to do. You also have to ask them for a special access boarding pass. It'll be a pinkish pass stapled onto the last page of the safety guide, and it will list all the rides and attractions and will have an "X" by the ones you are not permitted to ride or experience with your disability, if it applies. It will also list any special instructions on it and will have your name and address.

Even though you've already gone and probably ended up doing it the right way anyway, this is for anyone else who has the question that he asked.

agreed....My wife is the same way. We have handicap access & parking passes. Its a brutal hip injury (hit by a lift truck and a loaded pallet). And although she can often walk and look non-handicapped - when it flares up, its completley brutal and painful to watch.....She is classified as hadicapped and unable to be restored with therapy......It is not a great thing at all.....I am sure she would much rather wait in line than deal with the injury and its effects....I can only imagine how much worse it would be to be confined to a wheel chair....

My particular "handicap" isn't visible AT ALL (and I'm intentionally not saying what it is before people start abusing it). Heck, until recently I didn't even realize I COULD get an exit pass, and I've been going to parks and dealing with the condition for YEARS. Even knowing that I CAN now, I'm likely to just not bother most of the time...

After a little elementary research, I have to admit that I'm pretty darn surprised that you qualify for an exit pass. Probably as surprised as you were when you found out that you do.
