Midseason Form!

Well, MF has all but stopped "squeaking" and today I clocked blue train at an incredibly fast 1:30 today(start to first magnetic brake). That's 5 or 6 seconds faster than earlier this year!

One of the biggest reason is probably the warm weather. Another is just speculation on my part.

The source of the squeaking is not the white concave nylon wheels because the wheel arguments were the same today as earlier this year. Even with the squeaking earlier in the year, once when they ran it once in a light rain there was no squeaking. So the source of the squeaking must have been some friction created by rough rails. Since then, a fine layer of "wheel crud" has probably been applied to the rails from endless counts of wheels passing over them. That crud probably was washed away over winter because of no trains running. What it does is instead of the wheel coming in direct contact with the rail, It has a softer buffer to run on resulting in less friction.

Another reason could be the trains have been "broken in". they seem to be handling looser than before which is not a bad thing (look at Magnum).

The squeaking of the trains is actually the friction of the wheels on the track. As the wheels are wearing down the wheels create more space between the track and the surface of the wheel this causes the sqeaking of the trains that you hear as they go by. As far as the times are concerned the trains will run faster once the weather warms up...they were running very slow at the beginning of the season...trust me I know the times! As the season gets warmer the speeds will increase...

Well, it was worth a guess, knew it had to do with friction on the rails because of the one run in the rain!

So either the wheels are being replaced more often, or I get new wheel days!

Yeah, it squeaked more the other day than when I posted. Time for some new Wheels? :)

I am having a conversation with myself.

Joe E, your timing is all off because the lift hills speed is variable. Duh Moron!

Still the squeaking is not nearly as bad as early this year. Warm weather dose a coaster good.

I hope the squeaking is gone. That was pretty irritating hearing it.
