Coming back from media day I passed a sign about Lake road being closed between Rye Beach Rd and Cedar Point.
Anything still going on?

It's still closed... we took that way last night thinking there would be a detour but no such luck. It is only closed for a very small section of the road and there are parked construction trucks on the road. I have no idea why else it would be closed, it doesn't look like any road work is going on.

I saw that sign Sunday and I believe it was only going to be for a few days.

Culvert Replacement. Only going to be closed 3 days. If you were going to follow the detour you would have had to take 250 out of Cedar Point and Sandusky since ODOT detours follow state routes. Scroll down to Erie County US 6.

Thanks. Going either Wednesday or Thursday. Never have gone to 250. How much longer will it take to get to CP via 250 instead of the back way from Rye Beach Rd? Want to be there by 8:45 so traffic shouldn't be an issue. Any side street way around on the south side of the RR tracks?

[url][url]If the road is still closed, you can drive it like a local would.

Thanks Walt. Looks quicker then 250. Now I just have to watch the sky and figure out if tomorrow's weather is good.

Went there yesterday and had the same problem going home. I took a right turn onto camp rd, then my GPS did the recalculating and took over from there. Didn't take long to get to the highway. Maybe 2 minutes longer than it normally would take..?

Walt, can we take your shortcut in our 40 foot motor home?

Yeah, it's not a road designed for that kind of vehicle. Your best bet is to take the official detour.

The road is expected to remain closed through Friday, May 23. Here's the update from the Ohio DOT:

The closure of US Route 6 (Cleveland Road) west of Rye Beach Road will remain in place through Friday, May 23.

The road was originally expected to reopen today, May 21; however, unforeseen conditions beneath the road’s surface have required additional work to replace the culvert. The detour route will remain US 6 to State Route 2, west on SR 2 to US Route 250, west on US 250 to US 6, and reverse for eastbound motorists.

So is the road back open today? I'll be heading that way this afternoon. 😎
