Several weeks ago, in a listing for what's new for 2001, somebody mentioned a new diorama/scene for the skeletons on the CP&LE?

Was this true?

It's weird...with the character ride signs going down and the Midway Fountains refurb cancelled...CF found money to do some new -theming- on a family-oriented ride?

That's great!!!

Maybe we'll see a new dark ride for 2002...Pirate's Revenge!

Well, maybe not...I like dark rides...CP doesn't...hurmph.

Seeing as how I am a paragon of tackiness, and seeing as how animatronics are pretty damn tacky, I must say that I love it!

All we need is a buxom female skeleton lying on the wood about to be sawn in half and we'd have the Tracey dark ride stunt from Erieview Park. Maybe they'll add that for HalloWeekends...nah, too horrific. Not good clean family fun. Guess we'll have to make the trip up Lake Erie to Geneva-on-the-Lake to see that cheesiness.

Speaking of the CP & LE Railroad, did anyone know that they have a locomotive being restored now that came from Disney. I recieved info from Elliot Fong who got to see the locos up close and saw one back inside starting to be restored. After looking closly,he asked if this was the Original "Ward Kimball". Yes. They traded Disney with another.
Disney had painted the engine black and covered up all the Ward Kimball and Disneyland Railroad lettering before delivering to CP. Upon closer instection,he could still see faint traces of it underneath the thin coat of black paint.
Anyone interested,I can forward his email along for you to read. Very intersting!

Speaking of trees...Did anyone notice the trimmed back the trees along the track after the Frontier Station? They are now like telephone poles with leaves on the top instead of wires. Well maybe not that bad...

Yeah, why did they do that.

They also added a new scene next to the train's hand car.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I think it looks awful. I am sure that there was a reason for it though.

Observations from yesterday (5/28):

The tenders on the two locomotives running yesterday (Myron H. and Judy K.) were painted black with no lettering at all. Perhaps the "Cedar Point & Lake Erie R. R." logo is being altered?

Upon entering Boneville, I noticed the sign indicates a population of 50...er..49...no...48. Seeing this, I counted the skeletons in the various scenes. Unless I missed one, there are only 47 skeletons visible...although there are two hands on the fire pump handle which are not attached to a body at present...if those count, that would be Resident #48.

Dave, you definitely get high marks for observation!

What's in the new scene next to the 'train's hand car'?

And here's another somewhat train-related question...on the boring (er, scenic) side without the skeletons, after MF, somewhere along the Canyon, if you look to the right there's a small concrete island with a small, rusty piece of machinery sitting there.

Any idea what that's a leftover from?

Perhaps a piece of the old Shoot the Rapids ride.
