Space Spiral tribute video (break out the tissues!)

It's not nearly as awful as the Disaster Transport "tribute," but it helps to steal music from a better movie. This one has titles to build the melodrama. Good old film stuff there, for sure.

Honestly, that was nicely done. Here I thought you were being sarcastic.

Excellent video. It really captures what it meant in the past and what it was in the present. Meaning, that it still through all the changes remained there and still offered those breathtaking views that until up until recent years were not available on many rides.

I Miss the Pirate ride.

I think that was really nice! I know I am happy about the new ride going in, but I will miss Space Spiral! Many great rides...Great view!!!

Excellent. I will miss that ride. It was interesting to see some of the old footage showing the cabin in parked position halfway up the tower, during park operating hours. I thought that all the downtime was only a recent (last decade) phenomenon.

After watching the video, I feel like CP execs are such jerks for removing such an iconic ride!

On the other hand, I also feel like the video should have mentioned it had no air conditioning. I remember having several "why did I get on this" moments during hot summer days.

Very well done indeed, and sadly more of a tribute than the park apparently wanted to put forth.

Touching SS tribute. I was surprised not to see it go down at the end...maybe with Hildebrandt photoshopped in, giggling with red eyes. I guess the video was about celebrating Space Spiral's life though.

I don't know that I'd describe it as touching. If I've come to realize anything with the removal of this ride, it's that I literally don't remember the last time I had been on it. I'm going to go with 2006.

Yeah, I'm admittedly a sucker for old park footage vs. today, with dramatic music. Show me just about any classic CP footage with laughing, happy people cut to it being bulldozed, and I may get teary eyed. ;) lol

Whoever made this video should make one for DT though. Walking through the turnstiles of the bastardized DT to Celine Dion wasn't quite the same. :)

Nice video concept. Like Jeff, I can't really remember the last time I was on it, but probably sometime in the mid 2000's. Good riddance to it and can't wait to ride Gatekeeper.

Nicely done!

I like how you merely alluded to, but did not show the graphic nature if its death. :)

Great video, I love old footage of the park. To think about how much the park has changed in Space Spiral's lifetime is pretty amazing. Just think, before Millenium was built, SS was the first thing people would/could see when driving up the causeway.

I like seeing old footage of the park. Especially the panoramic views showing how the park looked when I was a kid. I had not ridden SS for 2-3 years and it was at least 10 years before that. It was a little odd not seeing it in the skyline for the first time in my life when I approached the park last Friday. But walking across the parking lot and into the park, I had pretty much forgotten about that.

Nice video! I feel fortunate that I was able to ride it with my wife one last time the day of the Gatekeeper press conference, which happened to be the last day it was ever open to the GP.

Jason

Why do they call it common sense, when it's so infrequently used?

Not to ruin the mood of the thread, but here is a really nice behind-the-scenes look at the demolition company's work.

I'm pretty sure I've not been on Space Spiral since the 80's, or maybe '91 at the latest.
