Here's what happened, I don't know the physical design portion of Mantis' Restraints, so is what happened to me possible.
Getting to the top of the lift hill, on Mantis, the over-the-shoulder harness was definately secured/locked. Seat belt fastened.
Coming around the lift hill curve, and just about to drop down the first hill, I put my hands up, like every other time I have ridden Mantis, to enjoy the drop.
I heard a clunk, my harness popped up until the seat belt stopped it. I though for a fraction of a second, $ h * t ! Then I grabbed the harness before the drop, and thought - well, I guess I am holding my harness the whole ride. I moved the harness away from me, then back toward me, all the way down the 1st hill - about 3 times. Each time until the seatbelt stopped it.
Then when we reached the bottom of the 1st hill, my harness re-locked. but by this time, I was thinking, I am not letting go of the harness until the ride is done.
So, does anyone know if, or how something like this could happen? I am only curious if it really happened, or am I imagining things. I have ridden mantis nearly 30 times, so it didn't freak me out. It was more excitement, that something different happened I wasn't expecting. The 1st hill is awesome.
GATEKEEPER-I came, I rode, I was mildly disappointed; until a second ride (rear left) put GateKeeper back on the...it's a nice ride list.
Last summer that happened to me on Raptor. I was almost at the top of the lift hill when the harness popped up with only the seat beat holding it down. I freaked and pulled it back in as fast as i could. It locked back into place but I too held it down the entire ride. When I got off I told one of the ride ops and they didn't seem to care at all.
I'm 5'-11", it seems as if Mantis' restraint just latches for me. Two years ago I was In the station, moving the restraint, and showing the ride op, that it wasn't latched, and the seatbelt was holding it, he waved to me saying it was OK. We left the station, and it latched.
So I am pretty sure, going down the 1st hill, my harness was loose.
GATEKEEPER-I came, I rode, I was mildly disappointed; until a second ride (rear left) put GateKeeper back on the...it's a nice ride list.
I've had that happen to me a few times on Raptor as well. The first time scared the crap out of me because the harness popped just after we made it up the lift. It was the best ride I've ever had. The last 2 times it didn't completely come loose but did just seem to pop up two notches.
Don't call me a "scare actor", I'm a Screamster
My question is don't the harnesses has sensors? If a harness comes lose i would think that a signal would be sent to the controls and shut down the ride. Just like the controls wont let you dispatch a train without the harnesses secure... or am i smoking something???
