Lighthouse Point (May 2001)
Hello hello hello...
Okay--I have made reservations to stay at one of the new Lighthouse Point cottages on May 15th and May 16th. While I am sure the Cedar Point staff will do everything in their power to make a stay at these cottages enjoyable this year, I have to say I am a bit concerned given two comments which the employee taking the reservation said.
1. First, when I asked if he was convinced that the cottages would be ready for my stay in mid-May he said, "Well, let's just hope that we do not have a wet spring."
2. Second, when I asked him for the layout, he said, "To be honest sir I have not really seen them yet but there is one in the parking lot which looks pretty nice."
While I know that the employee was kidding (at least I hope he was), that leaves some doubt in my mind you know? Oh well, I figure that it cannot be that bad--I mean, if the staff was able to get a giga-coaster ready for opening day, there should be no problem in getting the Lighthouse Point open. I suppose only time will tell for sure though.......

Let's see...we made reservations for one of the cottages on the nights of May 15th and May 16th (my parents actually wanted to stay at Sandcastle Suites but it is not open that time) and it was $125.00 per night. The cabins were $195.00 per night. Of course, you have to add the riduculously absurd 11% tax to this amount! I think it came out to be about $139 a night total. I guess that is not bad at all! Of course, I am sure that the price will be higher during peak season time (May 15th and May 16th are considered pre-season).

The way it was explained to me on the phone, both the cottages and cabins have their own shower (stand up showers only--no tubs). The employee told me that the only real difference is that the cabins will be bigger than the cottages in the sense that they will have an upper loft where younger kids can come and put their sleeping bags. Each cottage according to the representative is supposed to have a queen size bed, a futon, two televisions, one stand-up shower, and a set of bunk beds. Sounds nice but I will belive it when I see it. Also, each cottage (according to the employee) is supposed to have a patio with a grill on it. While the employee said that not all cottages will face the lake, you can request one facing the lake and the staff will make every effort to accomodate the request. Also (although this may not be new information), apparently a few rows of trees have been planted to separate the new "Lighthouse Point" from the "Mean Streak."

Request usually don't get granted. Every year we go to CP and stay at camper village and we requst spots close to the from for my handicapped grandfather. The first year we were right up by soak city, nice and close. The second year we were more towar dhte back of Magnum... and last year we were all the way over by Magnum's turn around by Sandcastle's.
Now I am not saying you won't get it, but based on previous experience it is first come first serve!
