Discounts in CP stores for employees

This is a question to the regular paying guests at Cedar Point. Would it bother you if employees were given discounts on items in some of the on point stores? For example, do you think it would be unacceptable for employees to only pay 1 dollar for pop instead of 3?

No, it wouldn't bother me one bit.

Discounts for employee's usually boosts morale, I'm all for it.

I dunno.. I feel pretty good about my 50% discount on rooms at Disney and my 40% discount on stores during the holiday season.

It wouldn't bother me at all, I'm very greatful for the excellent staff, and they deserve it.

Workers at

  • Gas Stations get free fountain soda
  • Restaurants typically get a free meal when working at 50% off other times
  • libraries get to check out books for free
  • most other stores get a discount
  • Universities get discounted sports/event tickets
Really, it's nothing new to have an employee discount. I don't see where we should get upset about CP employees getting a discount unless you get upset at everyone who gets a discount anywhere they work.

I would think that for employees, fountain soda should be free.

Employees do have access to reduced price pop machines, as well as other various merchandise discounts throughout the summer. Not to mention an employee cafeteria with greatly discounted food. As a current employee, I guess I'm a bit confused why you are asking this?

^ because they took away the employee discounts at the Camper Village store and Challenge Park Arcade store. Pop machines don't take debit cards and the cafeteria is a tough trip to make in half an hour so it was really nice having those stores available. I just don't understand why they don't want employee's money anymore. I used to spend a few dollars every day that I worked and now I spend nothing. I know thats true for my entire crew and probably for everyone else in challenge park/soak city. I just don't understand why this discount is a problem now when it never was before.

Hmmm... I worked at Ripcord in 2002, and I don't believe we had those discounts then... I remember paying full price for Krispy Kreme donuts for my crew. It must be something they tried out, and wasn't working out.

Interesting.

Do employees get discounts at the rides at challenge park?? If so, how much do they get off the original prices?

No discounts for the rides in challenge park.

The only real issue I see with employee discounts anywhere is in the event a line of discount seeking employees is preventing quick service to a full paying guest. I could see that being a potential problem at either the Camper Village store or the Challenge Park Arcade store.

But, it doesn't seem like it would be all that difficult to control that. A paying guest comes up...the employee steps aside. I guess I could be missing something but it doesn't seem like rocket science.

I assume ESD still have a Challenge Park night or two throughout the summer. That should satisfy most of the staff.

I heard that starting from a few weeks ago, there are not any employee discounts in the park now, except for the break areas or cafeteria. There used to be employee discounts at different places around the park last summer.. my friend works in TGIFridays and no longer gets a discount on food there. Not sure about merchandise, but from what I hear there are no discounts in that either.

I don't know the facts yet but if there is truth to the rumor then is smacks of desperate. Trying to make per cap quotas by nickel and diming your underpaid, overworked seasonal workforce is pretty sad.

If this is an indication then look for a parking fee increase by August 1st...and maybe even a ticket increase as well.
