Beer question.

I am heading to the park on Fathers Day with a few friends and had a question. I know that the ridiculous food prices are not going to completly stop us from ordering up a snack or two, but we are still going to pack a cooler with tons of ice and some food. We always hit Famous Daves for lunch/dinner because lets face it, the cost is almost the same to sit in a nice air conditioned restaraunt, be able to wash your hands and freshen up, or sit on a hot midway with tons of people walking by, and eating a dried up burger, crummy fries and a drink that is almost the same price as a gallon of gas. Now my question is, has anyone ever packed a cooler with beer in it and had a "Parking lot Party'' with a few snacks?

The beer prices are ridiculous in the park but it is expected. I am not talking getting drunk here but merely "enhancing the experience" of a fun day at Cedar Point.

Well according to CP's website:

"The Ohio Revised Code prohibits bringing beer, wine or intoxicating liquor on Cedar Point property"

Since the parking lot is CP property, I assume that would mean no. You can always have a beer or 2 at Famous Daves... just look out for random breathalyzers when you get back to the park... oh wait, that's not CP...

I think their policy is a little "retarded". How many people bring beer with them to their hotel and drink at their hotel? I know I did.....

People have parking lot picnic's all the time. Including fifths of jager and red bull...., don't worry. In fact I have wandered around with beer in hand while I was a fresh looking 21 year old and had no problems.

In fact I even sat at a table by the Soak City entrance and finished my beer. I have heard of people even being allowed in to the park if they have half a beer left for instance.

Yes I have packed a cooler full of brew and got cozy in the parking lot.

You can buy beer at the Camper Village store. The park will not know if you bought it there, or brought it with you.

It's as illegal as tail-gating. Technically? Of course you shouldnt do it, and this website would never promote breaking a rule at CP.

Nearly every time we go. Just be responsible and dont give security any reason to bug you, and you will be fine.

If you smuggle it in your suitcase (2 cases) they will never know.

Hmmm.. open container of alcohol in/around a vehicle... maybe if we were talking Six Flags New Orleans you'd be OK (no 'open container law' there) but I'd think twice about a parking lot with a bonded police force.

I had it at breakers last year. Nobody ever asked me since i rolled the case into my room myself. I didnt mean in the parking lot. I meant if you were staying at a resort. I brought it so i would not pay 5 bucks a beer at the bars down there.

^ So long as you don't get behind the wheel, and they can't show that you had any intention of driving said vehicle, there's no need to worry about open container laws.

A friend and I took a few walks up the beach and down thru camper village and thru soak city and back to the hotel. We put it in steel coffe mugs and had a cooler backpack. Nobody could tell we had beer in the mugs. Never got asked a question. And i kept the beer in the room fridge. I figured the room staff would find it and tell on me.

Yeah I also drank around the pool at Breakers with glass bottles and no one gave a hoot.

I also felt like I was pushing my luck.

Pushing your luck. Doing that in front of the life guards takes *well you know*.

If that had happened I would be a little peeved because if the room is still occupied, the staff has no reason to even open the fridge. I realize the fridge is hotel property, but if they are taking the time to snoop in there, what else are they doing while in the room.

Um, except that you still have an open container of alcohol where a permit for one does not exist. Just like you can't walk out of a bar into the bar's parking lot with your drink. (Its not a drinking and driving issue, its an open container law.)
This goes along the lines of.. it's illegal to open a beer in your house and walk to your neighbors house.. not saying its a good law, just saying it is the law.

Why would you have to worry about the hotel staff telling on you for bringing in beer? You could walk past the front desk with 2 cases and they'd offer to have a bell hop help carry it. It's happened to me. You are 21 right?

I have stayed at the Breakers several times and have seen people with multiple cases of beer, and the bellhop helping them with it. I don't think you will have any problem as long as your 21 and don't bring attention to yourself. We have also set around the pool/hot tub and drank to, the only time the guard said something is when one of my buddies took the beer in the pool with him.

Yeah im 21, no problem with that. I just was hiding it due to not knowing what they would say. I never took it with me before. I knew that there was a rule that said that you cannot bring alcohol with you onto park property. Thats why i was kinda worried.

If I had a dollar for every time I brought beer into a hotel, and often times consumed it in the lobby.

^ - you'd have had a few free cases?

The rule is mostly there so that if someone is being rowdy/obnoxious they have an excuse to confiscate the beer and kick them off point. If you are not being retarded, they aren't going to do anything.
