Off season Blue Streak maintenance?

I was playing with the FunCam and saw a crane over near Blue Streak. It's difficult to see what they're doing, but from watching it move around, it seems like it's between Blue Streak and the Picnic Shelters.

Don't they put all the coaster trains (and other rides) in the picnic shelters in the off-season for maintenance? Maybe they use the crane to move the train pieces in there?

Maybe Blue Streak is getting some new wood.

I think Tim might be right on this. I think it is still a little early on to start that kind of maintenance. Unless there's a overhaul going on with the ride, but I don't think it is due or necessary.

There are a few sections of the ride that could definitely use an overhaul. The turnaround is probably the one that sticks out the most in my memory. But yeah, I doubt its anything to do with some Blue Streak rehab, more likely just moving the trains and other large objects into storage.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

Are you kidding me? Before dawn the day after closing stuff is already being torn down. When your off-season gets shorter and shorter every year, there's no such thing as starting "early" on any maintenance project.

^Exactly. We've already seen all kinds of maintenance going on. T & T just posted a blog with lots of maintenance pictures.

Jeff, since you are disagreeing with Craig, who disagreed with Tim...does that mean that you are agreeing with Tim? With the way you two go at it sometimes, I think Hell might have just frozen over! ;)

Look at all the torque checks on MF, none of them are in December. Most of the work like that waits till the weather is a bit more friendly. maXair was barely even started until January even. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm not there during this time of year.

^ You can see on the FunCoast cam that a crane has been under MF doing work on the turn. It's December outside right now. Just an FYI;)

Blue Streak has received quite a bit of work during the month of October, many spots along the course of the ride received fresh wood. It's definitely over there working on Blue Streak, or moving it's trains to a new location.

About time the ride got some love! :)

Now if they would really go the extra mile and move the line entrance up to in front of Pirate Ride...ah, who am I kidding? That will never happen. Anyone who works Blue Streak will endure the blessing and crap-shot of a position that is entrance there. Not to mention those many guests who will never be able to find it no matter how hard they look.

Most everything sits outside, covered or uncovered, until it's worked on. There's not enough space to physically store everything inside.

I would hardly call January weather "friendly." ;)
Work starts right away, as Jeff noted, but most of it you just don't see going on because it's in the "warehouses."

^^I can't imagine the problems you guys get over the location of Blue Streak's entrance. Guest asked me at the entrance of Corkscrew a couple times a day, "Where's the exit to this ride?" If you can picture Corkscrew's entrance, you'll understand how crazy of a question that is.

new beams? I say its the start of a new ride ;)

cranes don't move trains off of the coasters......or to shelters. Its just some maintenance. I hope it is for the Blue Streak. It would be about time.

Blue Streak has had some intense love the last few years, especially two or three ago when The Canadians rehab'd it.

Well, it doesn't look that great if it did get some love a few years ago. Of course, I got to sit there and analyze the ride beam for beam sometimes with how slow we would get, and one night I managed to spot about 30 lights that needed replaced on the lift. So maybe I see a little bit more than the average guest; but still, I think it looks rather sad.

On a slightly unrelated note, does anyone know if they used to have support cables running down into the next to last low zone from both sides of the entrance/exit of the horseshoe at one point? I noticed two small footers with a rather large steel ring similar to the larger footer with the cables attached in the horseshoe, and thought that's what it looked like. They were both angled towards their respective side of the ride.
