Retro Cedar Point theme area

I always though it would be cool if the park did something like Kennywood and put in a theme area tied to the park's history. Some of the rides and attractions they could put in are the Sky Wheel, Rotor, Wild Mouse, Satellite Jets, Caterpillar, Tumblebug, Bubble Bounce, Mill Race and a replica of the upside down fun house. Would would you put in. I also think a replica of the Cyclone could be built but I don't know how the design would play with today's sue happy crowd. I hear it was quite a rough ride.

Jumbo Jets and the monorail thingy - I forget what it was called.

That would be cool to put that kind of area where DT, MaXair, and Macoroni's are.

Wild mouse and tumblebug are both rare rides. There are only 3 tumblebugs still operating however CP in theroy could get both a tumblebug and a wildmouse from one of their old rivals chippewa lake is not far from CP and has been abandoned for some time. It still has a wild mouse and a tumblebug although both are in sorry shape. You can see pics of them here http://www.forgottenoh.com/Chippewa/chippewa.html Its kind of a sad sight though.

^ I've seen both in person, as Chippewa Lake is only 10 minutes or so down the road from Wadsworth. Neither one of them is in any shape to ever run again, that's for sure.

I've been by but did not want to disturb people so I decided against it. Still though there are alot of abandoned amusement parks out their and some have rides that are very repairable.

The perfect place for an area like that... a place that seems to have more and more room every day...

Geauga Lake?

How about getting any classic rides still at Conneaut Lake Park -- I don't think that place will be coming back :(

^^ I think that a retro theme to all of GL would be a great idea. I love the feel of Kennywood's "Lost Kennywood" area.

I think only 1 tumblebug still exists. Conneaut is SBNO, Blackpool closed theirs, and Whaloms is gone. Kennywood operates the only Tumblebug type ride.

Imagine if your regular day ticket for CP was also redeemable (perhaps on "day 2") at a smaller off-site park with classic rides (and the Frontier Lift ;)

Or as I said at first, move all of those modern rides out of Geauga Lake and set up a classic 50's looking park inside with a roller rink, ballroom, old CP rides... Earthquake, Demon Drop, Avalanche Run, Rotor.

I've never been to Kennywood, but I've heard they have a Whip there... i may have to make a special pilgrimage...

Jam, I highly suggest the trip to Kennywood, and not just for the Whip. It also has a tumblebug, Noah's Ark, 2.5 John Miller Coasters, the only coaster that has given me more forceful air then Magnum (Phantom's Revenge,) Kangroo and Auto Race.

All of us OH/PA enthusiasts should consider how lucky we are to be so close to so many fantastic parks and coasters.

How true Touchdown. I live in ohio and live an hour from Kennywood and 2 from GL and 3 1/2 from CP. It makes for great weekends. Kennywood does have a whip. CP has a few of its old rides hidden away it appears. Ride snake river and look down to your right as your going through on top you see remnants of rides in that area with dump trucks and such.

Some of that stuff over there are just some stuff that CP gathered over the years. As I'm looking through some of those pictures of Wild Mouse over at Chippewa Lake, it's actually not in that bad of a shape. Most of the steel track needs some repair, new supports, and a new, operating system, but with permission from the land's owner, CP could, if they wanted to, restore Wild Mouse cheaper than it would be to build a brand new one. It may take a while, but it's possible.

Okay, I forgot the cars. Those are what's going to be the most expensive. They may have to be custom built to the original designs, if they still exist. That's going to be the hardest to do. Find used cars or build new ones from scratch.

That would be cool. But in most cases, espically ones in really bad shape, its actually cheaper to buy new then try to repair the old ones. Original company closed? I'm pretty sure someone can take the original layout, update it, and redesign it to beat the[if any] legality issues.

It could potentially be on the pennisula, but they lose a lot of parking or resort space. [Why don't they build the lot of site and shuttle people up the causeway? Lift, trains, trolleys, busses, would all work.] And even if it was at a diffrent site, with the new platinum pass you could get in and park for free. =]

Uh. Yeah. Not to mention that massive sections of the ride were removed and probably melted down.

So, the cost of restoring versus purchasing a new ride?

Not so much on the restoration now, eh?
