Heck! When I lived south of Kalamazoo Michigan there was a rumor that a Six Flags was going to be built in the city I lived in. I knew that it wasnt going to happen. Now this rumor of a new park going in that far north in Michigan. It is to far fetched for me to believe. For one reason Michigan's infrastructure is very bad, and we need not mention the states economy which is the worst in the country. Plus they plan to build it in the county that has one of the highest poverty rates in the state. To me none of this makes sence.

I have no idea where Six Flags came into this. None of the news reports that I have heard say anything about Six Flags. It would be named "Main Street America". There is no Six Flags in the name. I do think it is a weird place to put it. I does sound like the race track will double as a snowmobile trail during the winter. It think that that will be very popular.

I always thought a park in or near Mackinaw City would be a great idea, but I guess Grayling will do. I think Six Flags is being mentioned above because quite a while ago, a major amusement park was proposed by SF and to be located in the Frankenmuth/Birch Run area. It'd be nice to go to a park here in my home state that you can actually get to from a highway. MA is such a pain to get to.

How is it hard to get to? I-96 to US-31 North to the North Muskegon Exit or Russel Road Exit.

MiA is a dream to get to compared to Cedar Point.

I live in the Tri-City area of MI. The only way of getting there takes 3+ hours and you can only go 55mph, never ending red lights, little towns/speed traps. I'm only on the highway for maybe 20 minutes. Pain to get there but Shivering Timbers makes up for the hassle. As for this new proposed park, a clear shot down I-75 would be great...if they have actually have coasters, and it's not another 'Auto World'...Glad it's not Six Flags

"This is a private project by private developers and the profits will go to a private individuals," said Marvin Roberson of Marquette, forest policy specialist for the Michigan Sierra Club.

"There's no way in the world the state ought to be disposing of public land for private development purposes."

Ben, I mentioned on the CBuzz thread that I had my doubts the DNR would give up the land.

I'm also wondering if that land is already somewhat protected for the Kirkland Warbler. I seem to recall a lot of the land in that part of the state was protected.

The kirtland warbler area around there is on the other side of I-75. they prefer pines and low shrubs. The land in question is mostly a lot of hardwood trees.

The rumor mill can suck..... but the township board meeting video and my uncle serving on the board is pretty reliable! :)

"The land where the amusement park would be built is owned by the state but designated for economic development. It's presently a vacant industrial park.

Crosson said the park eventually could be operated entirely from renewable energy sources. Up to 200 windmills are planned for the complex, situated near the highest points in Crawford County.

The state will begin negotiating the sale of the land to Axiom after it is appraised, David Freed, land and facilities chief for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, told the Record-Eagle.

I think this is a great idea! Many people think that this wouldn't work but i have my reasons to think that it will. First of all, The indoor park they built in Flint had very LAME rides and very few attractions. This project would have better coasters due to the fact that they don't have a limit on how long or high it is. Also the Six Flags that they were thinking about building never even got to the news. Correct me if im wrong.

I also have supporting evidence that this Forum is not Cedar Point related.
