Why brake Mantis?

I can see why they brake MS, but why is there that trim on Mantis?

Feel the Force!
When I ride Mantis nowadays, it is kind of hard going through the loop even with the break but when going down the first hill all I here is a loud sound. I don't feel to much

Since when did Mantis break? I always thought it had brakes? But, to answer your question, the GP decided that the ride was too rough and needed to be slowed down.

They need to KILL the brake! It feels as if it is going to STOP at 4 differant sections of the ride. I prefer SPEED to stopping upside down.

A break would explain a loud sound...

Anyways, I do have to admit that the first season for Mantis left my legs pretty sore. I think the trims are okay but it would be better w/o them. I'm 14 now, not 10 so the ride would be great if it didn't have trims, I think I could take the forces. But the fact is that young people ride too and the ride needs to be safe for everybody not just some.

Trim brakes-a necessity???
I have had the oportunity to ride Banshee...err...Mantis without the brakes. It is intense. It did'nt hurt my legs (of course I'm an endurance runner...so you know...lol), but for the GP it was too intense.

I personally like when the train hits the brake hard going down the first hill. The reason I say that is because when you are at the top of the loop there is a lot of float time, and it feels like you are going to fall out.

I have to agree with Brandon. I like the brake for the same reasons. And the float is even better when you're on a mostly empty train.

I don't mind the brake at all. It doesn't jerk you. It's not uncomfortable. I really don't notice it. I seem to remember that before the brake, there were parts of the ride that were just too fast, causing your neck to snap too much or give you a major headache (the same feeling I got on Drachen Fire). I think it's a superior ride that is bashed for no reason. Clearly the best Stand-Up around. I think we all need to ride King Cobra at PKI a few more times to truly appreciate Mantis.
i love Mantis and i see the need for the brake. i love the feeling you get going through that loop, especially in the back. try riding Iron Wolf sometine and THEN compare..IW is not a bad ride, it's just so darn SMALL that it doesn't even need trims even though i'm sure it has them(just can't remember where)...but i would like the opportunity to ride Mantis without the brake. although i do admit its pretty cool when you KNOW you've hit that brake *WHAM* and what is coming next..HANG time!!

You say you have float time at the top of the loop, does that mean airtime, or do you just go flying into the top of the harness?

I think it'd be a great stand up coaster if you could only sit down.
I like the floating through the loop as well, but I would rather have an un-trimmed 125 foot first drop than a trimmed 137 foot first drop, wouldn't you?

Only 2,290½ miles from Cedar Po!nt.
They should call it a vertical "0 G" loop.
I'll just throw in my vote with the majority, I love the airtime in the loop because of the break!

Coasterguy, it's a little from column A, a little from column B...airtime AND sometimes you hit the harness...

If there was a break on the drop, many people would start plummeting to their deaths, and they would run out of trains quickly.
