Guess I did not gain enough knowledge about sandusky in just one trip. Sorry about offending anyone. Maybe this will help!

Sandusky Report- A town in Northern (Central) ohio that I just dont know enough of to judge so quickly.

100 restaurants? ;) Maybe in the entire city, but not on that road.

Fact is that in 2 weeks my wife and I are moving from suburban Cleveland to Huron (next to Sandusky) by choice. Why am I moving to a place that is a 55 mile one-way drive from my place of employment? Quality of life. Cost of living. I can go on and on, but I won't waste my time. You obviously got off of the Ohio Turnpike and drove right down Rt. 250 to Cedar Point. You have no idea what Sandusky or Erie County has to offer.

You're dumping on a town because there is a ag factory next to the turnpike exit? An exit that is 12 miles from the town? So a town sucks if it's within 12 miles of industry or has a lot of lodging and dining choices?

Where exactly do you live?

Ryan, i just wanted to comment on your article about sandusky not being a nice place. First of all before you make such an ignorant statement you need to get your facts straight. First of all that area you talk about by the turnpike along SR 250 isnt a food processing plant. It is a certainteed shingle plant, and Schlesinger seed company also the corn fields you talk about that whole area along SR 250 the city its in is called Milan Ohio. And by the way you mentioned applebees restaurant that isnt in sandusky either. Thats in a town called Perkins Township. My family and i live in this area that you think is sandusky onio. And frankly we are proud to live here. From the Lake Erie islands to the city of vermillion this area is one of the nicest and choice areas that anyone would want to live in. Next time you want to run down a town or anything else in fact make sure you get your facts straight.

Sandusky itself doesn't strike me as more than average, but the surrounding towns are so not-urban. I spent a lot of time in Huron growing up because my dad had a boat on the river. Everything Walt says is true.

I love my city, Cleveland, and even the suburb I live in, Brunswick, but the central lakeshore areas are among the best in the state. We as Northern Ohioans don't nearly take advantage of the great location we're in.

Personally, I'm a firm believer that you just grow accustomed to your surroundings.

My dad took myself and two of my friends up to Cedar Point this year. Dad, who grew up in northern Louisiana, kept making comments about how he loved how flat and open Ohio is. "Just like down home," he often said. Me, on the other hand, though, coming from Uniontown, PA (about 45 minutes south of Pittsburgh), I didn't find Ohio to be too attractive at all. I live in a very mountainous area, and find flat/plains type places to be a bit unattractive, uninteresting, and just plain boring.

That having been said, I'd rather live in Pennsylvania than Ohio... because it's what I grew up with.

However! Ohio seems to be much cleaner, well-kept, and "newer", for lack of a better term. More than once, Dad pointed out the many, MANY stretches of luxury houses and condos, along with the number of farms (from corn to berry). Not to mention the huge Jeep plant by Toledo (correct?).

My impression of Sandusky was a good one, seemed like quite a nice place. Great place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there ;)

this post is fun to read,and it looks like i am the only one not from that area that thinks it would be nice to live there,maybe its cause im from flat/boring northern indiana?maybe they should go through there in the winter and see the small differences when the park is closed,now that is a kinda sad sight in a way

To quickly clear up a misconception, Perkins Township is just that ... a township. It has a school district, police, and fire, but does not have it's own zip code or post office.

i actually WANT To move to Ohio, specifically the area around Sandusky/Huron/Norwalk/Milan..why? it is a great area and the people i have met from that area are all really nice and laid back. the way i feel about it is this...it's like Illinois in appearance, but everyone isn't so high-strung. i wouldn't even mind the drive to Cleveland if i had to do it every day. i already live 42 miles out of Chicago and THAT drive is a nightmare any time of day. bet the drive to CLeveland isn't nearly as bad...

The drive from Huron to downtown Cleveland IS easy. Granted, it is 55 minutes. But I live in suburban Cleveland now and my commute is 35 minutes. Not much difference.

I live 30 minutes south of Cleveland in Akron. The drive to the new stadium along the coast to the Point is a very nice and enjoyable drive.

WHOEVER, I live in northen IN too, and I would mind living there either.

Living here in Pittsburgh, I'm somewhat envious of those who live in the northern Ohio. The surrounding attractions, the lake, the islands and the of course CP... compared to the jammed up parkways, tunnel traffic, endless road construction and a confusing road system. I'm completely with servo on this one!

Yes, Seven-of-9, the locals like it very much here. There are plenty of things to do year round, if you seek them out.

Also, I agree with the Pittsburgh traffic report...one one Kennywood trip, I ended up taking the Orange Belt to West Virginia by mistake! Or was it the Yellow Belt? I'm not usually one to get lost, but P-burg is a challenge.

It's good to be back, though it's like we never left :) I've only actually been away from Huron for 11 months.

Is everyone here crazy, the surrounding area of Sandusky may be nice, but the city itself is a hole in the ground. The end of the causeway is the ghetto, has anyone ever been the the McDonalds on the Causeway??? Those are the dumbest people I have ever met!!!! I LOVE Cedar Point to death don't get me wrong, but I wish it was in Huron, or Norwalk.

I just placed myself in Huron too! Graduated college in May, back to work at CP, and couldn't stand the thoughts of employee housing for another summer.... Huron's a great place so far - just far enough away from Sandusky (not that it's a bad town), and not too bad of a drive into Cleveland either.
