Lift Hills

Which is better the new elavater lift system or the classic chain lift?

MF Rides= 4
I think the elevator system is almost a ride itself, as it goes so quickly and smoothly. Certainly with a ride the size of Millenium Force you need a faster lift, else the ride won't have a very high capacity and the lines will be far too long (as if they aren't some days already). On the other hand, the classic chain gives you that "anticipation time" as you slowly ascend the hill, and the rattle of the chain is a welcome and homey sound to many coaster enthusiasts.

I would say that, like different coaster types, each type of lift has its own merits.

i like both types too, although after my first ride on MF i said to someone "i hope they never use another chain lift again" and "wouldn't it be cool if they converted Maggy to elevator lift"? then i realized that i would know the sound of Maggy's lift ANYWHERE...it is SO distinctive. i saw it on Discoverey Channel in silhouette and even though i could not actually SEE the ride, i could identify it by the sound of its lift alone. so each has its merits and its place. MF could not be without its elevator lift, and Maggy, although it would be cool to see her with one, would lose something, as would every woodie and smaller steelie. elevators are to chain as poodles are to dogs..same species, different breed. love 'em all for thier differences. that lift is what makes MF what it is.

ride early, ride often!!!
I think elevator lifts will replace all chain lifts eventually, just not in the speed as fast as MF . I think replacing the chain with a cable is more practical. All cable lifts wouldnt have to have the magnetic anti-roll back, they could use the traditional anti roll backs so that they could still have the sound of the clankety-clank. Also, the speed wouldnt have to be soooo fast. Could you imagine getting up DT's hill in 5 seconds? I am sure if they used it on other coasters they would be the same speed that the lifts are now.... :) *** This post was edited by CABEWNCP on 9/3/2000. ***
