Those aren't dumb decisions, those are business maneuvers. Remember, Cedar Fair is a business. The #1 goal of a business is to make money, and make its customers happy. Cedar Fair is trying to make more money, so they can continue to provide a great product to its customers, us. Those roller coasters and swing rides aren't cheap.
