Rollbacks

I have a question, what would they do in the event of a rollback on Disaster Transport? Is it possibly to get a crane inside the building? Seems like they would have a big problem there.

I don't know how it happened, but when DT had a rollback (or, more accurately, it just stopped in the trough), a bunch of maintenance workers got together to push it to the break. There is only one place where Disaster CAN roll back, around the satellite, and that isn't too far of a distance. And remember, there are only 10 people, as opposed to a standard train with 32!

A winch crane system that either pulls up alongside or underneath the ride if more than 1/4 of the train makes it up the hill. Otherwise it is pushed.

Disaster Transport supposedly hit a Styrofoam Asteroid during it's first year under it's new name. It also has "staled" out at least once (as mentioned above).

Iron Dragon hit a pole during a test run. This was before the ride opened to the public. Unsurprisingly the Magnum XL-200 roller coaster built two years later was the first at Cedar Point to have a pull through.

Does Iron Dragon hit poles often. I wouldnt want to hit a pole my first ever ride on a suspended coaster! *** This post was edited by Coaster guy2000 on 8/13/2000. ***

Iron Dragon has never hit a pole since (and, no offense, Magnum, but I'd never heard about it before! Not that I don't believe you, because anything can happen! *Grin*), and I've test ridden it with no other weight in the train dozens of times. You'll love it - suspended coasters have a definate unique feeling!

It was the very first test run they did on Iron Dragon. It was also before they did pull throughs. The problem was fixed before the ride opened in 1987 (Iron Dragons first season).

So did Arrow wrongly design ID by putting the pole on the wrong side of the track so it swung into the pole?

How did they fix it?

This smacks of urban legend.

No everybody, ID did hit a pole. It was not it's first test run ever though. It was the first test run with people in it. The part where it hit is in the final helix. The train made it through fine during all the empty tests, but when it was tested with people in it, the extra weight pulled the train down a few inches more than it was before, therefore, it hit a pole that it cleared fine when the train was empty. This is a true story because if you look closely at the "7 shaped" supports in the final helix, you will see one that has the corner cut off of it so the train will not hit it when it passes over. Also, the front car of the train that hit cracked and was unable to be used. They use it as a prop for holloweekends, I think they put a couple skeletons in it.

PS: nobody was injured when it hit the pole

Gemini hand a roll back on it's first run. the second hill was to tall and I think it's stalled. { I'm only 13} So the cut off 5 ft. of the second hill, thats why its SLOW aroud that hill.

Is that why the front cars are different colors than the others cars, or were they that way before also.

Wrong... the smashed tub used as a Halloweekends prop hit a tree that somehow got in the way of the ride. I sincerely doubt the ride EVER hit a support column because even Arrow is smart enough to allow clearance in the ride's full range of motion, just in case something prevented it from moving at full-swinging speed. If there were ever to be a catastropic wheel failure and the car had to rely on the safety hooks it would most certainly stop somewhere mid-course.

I wasn't taking about the smashed tub I was talking about the time the guide wheel on the bottom of the car was knocked off. Now, I would assume I was misinformed about that too. As that never sounded quite right.
