Squeaky Wheels II

From what I understand there is nothing wrong with the squeking. The wheels that cause the squeking are wider and grip to the track more. If you have seen the Mantis wheels you will understand what I'm talking about. I'm not sure what they are made of but I was told that after having these wheels run for a few hours you can touch them and they don't feel hot at all.

The problem with these wheels is that they can't put them on an entire train because the trains would be going too fast. Then again its no real secret that the ride is running faster than it should be. I don't care how many computers you use or the formulas people have used as examples on this site. Once a ride opens and the natural elements take over who knows how fast the ride will really get. For example this past Friday the MF computer shut the ride down 3 times becasue the ride was running too fast.

I'd love to know how fast that ride is realy going. You hear rumors from reliable people but you still don't want to beleive it.

all i know is i heard triple digits being tossed around at one point in time...but i would LOVE to hear once and for all how fast it TRULY is...but they'll never tell unless it becomes important enough for it to be made public.

Yes, but physics limit the ride, if I'm not mistaken. Due to the angle of the drop, gravity, and friction, I thought that the formulas given on previous threads was accurate. I could be wrong, though. It's been about 4 years since I took any Physics classes here at UC.

It's no more than 96. But that may be considered too fast. (Theoretical max=97, but there is friction) It's been discussed time and time again. MF can NOT HIT 100!!! Unless, of course, they miscalculated the drop height and it's really 330 feet tall or something. But I don't think they'd make that kind of mistake. ;)

Thanks for pointing that out, Jman... I was hoping we didn't have to get in to that again. I don't care what anyone at the park says, you can't argue physics. The theoretical maximum speed is 97, period, assuming there is not friction and you're in a vaccuum (neither of which is the case). If Dick Kinzel himself tried to tell me it was going faster I'd laugh in his face, because it just ain't true.

Millennium Force will NEVER go faster than 97 unless the gravity increases and our atmosphere disappears, in which case we'd probably be dead anyway.

(Kind of creepy to think of Cedar Point with lighting like the moon, eh? Bright light, black sky...)

Next year we find Cedar Point has stacked thousand ton lead balls under the pullout of MF in order to increase local gravity. =)

After being there sunday for drug mart day with a bunch of friends I noticed MF did not have that squeak. It sounded like its old self the whole day. Raptor and most rides were pratically walk ons. while MF was to the pop machines max. Even a tad shorter at times. A dead day at the park (my favorite days)

Wait. If it is running faster. Maybe it will still keep the speed record over Steel Dragon 2000. It only goes 95 and IF MF really is going 96 or 97 it would still hold the record. I also found it interesting that in the Sandusky Register they said they will still keep the saying the worlds tallest and fastest coaster until it is official messured bye a third party. Is this trying to tell us something????? Go on over to Coaster Buzz if u want to read the article.

Hey. We could measure it! Lets see, the size of the bug splats should tell us how fast it's going and we can drop a role of Chairmon or Scotts off the top just like they did on the commercial.

Is it really that big of a deal?
