I just uploaded my latest set of Millennium Force pictures. Sure they look like some of my previous ones, but this set was taken with my new digital camera so the quality is a little better.

Um is it just me or is the page like not working? When it comes up the only two things that get displayed are "email this page to a friend" and "tell me when this page is updated". Sometimes it will come up and say page cannot be displayed and other times it comes up with some sort of proxy error. This happen to anyone else?

2) I use a Sony Cybershot DSC-S30 digital camera. It's nice and small so it fits perfectly into a coaster enthusiasts waistpack. The picture resolution goes from 640x480 to 1400x??? (some oddball number). These shots were originally taken at 1024x768 and I shrunk them down to a managable 640x480. I highly recommend this or any camera in the Cybershot series to anyone. Cost: starting at $500

Ah yes Scott, the Sony digital mavica cameras. I just got the MVC-FD90. Having about the same resolution. I got a few pics of CP on that webpage in my sig. Those were taken with the lowest resolution as I only had 2 disks. that resolution is 640x480. Max is 1472x1104.

While that's fabulous for digital cameras, I'd like to see any digital camera grab the images I can get out of film. Using my Canon Elan IIe ($250) and a lens ($150-500) or your average point-and-shoot with decent optics ($~90), I can scan an image at 3200x2650 and get detail you didn't know film had. Granted, the Nikon scanner costs $800, but the 8x10's you can print on a cheap HP printer ($250) are insanely phenomenal.

I like digital cameras, but for the image quality I'm not yet impressed enough to buy one. I like to make 8x10 prints, and digital just doesn't approach the detail you need to make a print that big.

The trick to doing photo scans is less the camera quality than it is the scanner quality.

A mid-range digital camera beats out a phenomenal film camera twinned with an old [Say HP IIe] scanner.

Scanning prints gets you nowhere. Scanning negatives exceeds anything any CCD can capture, especially when it comes to contrast. Film has far greater dynamic range than video (which is what digital cameras really are). We've still got a good ways to go before digital cameras can replace film (though Lucas will try damn hard to make it happen sooner than later).

Theoretically you can now. You just have to outpixel the retina. =)

Still, negative scanners aren't cheap, either, and it is a matter of scanner being worth more than the camera.

You can get a negative scanner for under $150. The quality isn't quite like the Nikon scanner, but they do scan negatives. For those into this kind of stuff, there's an article in today's Plain Dealer:

Wow, that CP_MF_ThirdHill_06 picture is gorgeous - great shot! Is there any way you could get it again without the loop being cut-off at the top. It would be sure fire framer!

I personally like the Snake River Falls photo. One question though - Did you edit out Millennium's lift, or am I just delusional??

If I'm not mistaken, from that angle, you wouldn't be able to see MF's lift because you can see the Magnum Hill on MF, so MF's lift would have to be farther to the right and therefore not in that picture

Maybe I am wrong though.

Nope, you're correct. I was stading near the FrontierTown first aid office when I took that pic. With the frame tight around SRF, MF is out of the shot.
