design changes.

It has been said that in Gemini's and Woodstock's original design they had more transfer track. Gemini would have two extra trains. Woodstock (which has the right amount of blocks and train intervals to run two trains) was supposed to have a transfer around the brake run.

This raises some questions for other coasters (Corkscrew and Mean Streak to be exact). Mean Streak has a very strange set up. First it has a lot of room in the center of the structure. To me that is just not like CP. Second the rides brake run is before a drop. The finale on this ride is rather dull. I wonder if it had some extraordinary finale that was taken out in later designs.

Corkscrew is even more strange. It not only has an incredibly long brake run, but it also has a long stretch of track on top of a hill that just happens to be the same length as the trains. I would suspect that that is either a precaution or a designing change.

Man would I like to see the original designs for those two.

On Corkscrew, you have to remember that Jungle Larry's used to be right next to it. I believe that Corkscrew has a long brake run because there was no room to put in anything else at the time...plus it runs three trains on a short ride. Knowing Arrow, I doubt there was a different ending for the ride at some point way back in time.

For Mean Streak, I agree the ending is dull. Maybe a double helix at the end would have been better.
From what I've read about Summers' design, it was intended that way. It was supposed to look like a larger Texas Giant [hence the huge middle], but with some layout differences. He tamed the ending intentionally.

I believe Cedar Point did want the the middle section of Mean Streak, they put the queue in it

Magnum XL-200 Drop:3
Don't forget Magnum's change in the turnaround. Dan's site (www.spiritofthepoint.com) has a picture of the original layout. It shows that the turnaround continuously declines, and not like it does today-up around and down. I think this change in the layout lead to it's reprofilation(is that a word?)
Magnum was changed after the first season.

Corkscrew just seems like it could have four trains. It has a spot for more blocks and another transfer. Of course the ride would have to be just a little longer.

Mean Streak's line does not take up even half of that space.

I remember reading somewhere that Mean Streak's original ending was supposed to be very different from the original design but was scaled down because it was thought to extreme.
