Matterhorn lap bars.

Coastern3rd

Can anyone tell me if the lap bars on matterhorn are supposed to lock?

my girl and I hit that up before Scrambler on Sunday. We took car 11 (Laurens favorite number). The lap bar (which looked like it was connected to a hydraulic box) did not lock.

I'm wondering if I should be writing Cedar Point about this. I'm not Sue happy or anything, I just think it should be brought to their attention. The ride op did the standard slap on the lap bar and it was pushed against my knees. So it probably felt like it was locked.

Nope, they have never locked.

Answer: No they are not supposed to lock. I think there are signs on the cars indicating this but I am not too sure for it has been a few years since I rode it.

Good, I thought they were not supposed to. No signs, it looked like they were connected to a box though.

I was going to write them and let them know, but I wanted to be sure first.

No, don't worry. They aren't supposed to lock. The forces of the ride will keep you secure, along with the bar even though it doesn't lock.

oh, that bar moved a lot during our journey...

The ride spiel is supposed to include a suggestion that you "hold on to the lap bar because it does not lock." The hydraulics on the inboard side of the car is just to keep the bar from flopping around, and to keep it from coming down TOO quickly (ever ride a Chance Flying Bobs and see what those bars do?).

There is one other adult ride at Cedar Point with non-latching lap bars. Do you know what it is?

I'm gonna take a guess at Super Himalaya.

No - you got me - only thing I can think of is Wave Swinger but they lock via a belt clip. Adult rides that is.

No - Himalayia has 2 locks as a matter of fact - primary and secondary

I'm pretty sure it's not that. I am going with Witches Wheel *** Edited 5/9/2006 9:22:27 PM UTC by CP Tay Tay***

I can answer that one for you, WW being one of my faves :) Witches Wheel has no bar whatsoever, just that gate that closes on the side.

I wanna guess.... Troika, only because I haven't been on it in a while (long enough not to remember). Everything else I remember latching of some sort (although Monster is kinda makin me think hard).

Oh wait, Ocean Motion doesn't technically latch, it's held down by the hydraulics or however it raises/lowers. Does that count?

EDIT: I don't see a latch anywhere *** Edited 5/9/2006 9:29:28 PM UTC by GeeForce***

Witches Wheel has no lap bars and the door locks

Troika - has electrical/solinoid locks

Monster - the 2 bars lock when the front of the vehicle is raised into position.

Oh ok. I stand corrected then (on Troika).

Snake River Falls!

I hope I'm right. My judging is from Kings Island's smaller but similair ride.

Snake River Falls has that big solid padded bar that stretches the entire train per bench that kinda presses against your stomach a little bit.

So far, nobody is even close.

Hmmm...Oh, it's worth noting that there is something else odd about the ride I am thinking of. :) (And you've already eliminated the Troika from contention)

It's a ride that has a lap bar, but the lap bar does not latch.

Tilt-a-whirl???

Or is that not an adult ride? I know I ride it quite a bit! ;) *** Edited 5/9/2006 10:27:24 PM UTC by MDOmnis***

Superman: Ride of Steel ;)

Last guess is Calypso, but I've never ridden it, so this really is a guess.
