Prom vs. Coastermania

My boyfriend is a senior this year, and gets to go to senior prom. I'm only a junior, so I have my real prom next year. But of course he wants me to go with him, not anyone else, and Prom is the day before coaster mania! I don't have a license or a car, and my dad is going to coastermania too with his girlfriend and doesnt want to miss the morning ERTs; so I'd have no ride. Help me pointbuzz! What should I do?

Prom with a boy/girl friend comes only once, coastermania is every year.

Since when are proms held on a Thursday? I kinda thought Saturday was always the norm. Anyhoo, I agree with what Vince said. Of course, you could just sleep all day the day before and then try to stay up for about 36 hours or so.

Which memory is going to be more important looking back 30 years from now?

I'm assuming prom is on Friday night and coastermania, for her, could be Saturday.

Anyhow, no matter- go to the Prom, honey. It'll be lots of fun, you can go to C.P. later, prom will be less crowded for sure, you can let the old man (what's he, all of 35?) and his girlfriend have a date. And you'll be sorry later if you miss it. And later will come on Monday when you hear your girlfriends at school talk about getting dressed up, the dance, etc. (Do they still dress up? Do they still dance?)

Anyhow...No question- do as I say.

Def. Prom. This should be a no brainer. If he asked you specifically, then you can't really say no!

My prom falls on opening day this year. I can hit CP for the first half of the day then come home and go to prom. Sounds like a great day to me!

Well this isn't MY prom, and its my father and I's tradition to go to coastermania. Thats why I'm asking the question, of course I want to go to prom with my boyfriend, but then I also want to go to CM with my dad. I would like to go to prom, and then the last half of CM, but I don't have a ride. So I'll probably end up just going to Prom, unless my dad misses the first half of CM so we can go down together.

I would NOT want to be the guy who gets passed over for roller coasters.

Hands down, go to the prom. Not only will it be a more important memory for you, but also consider how you would feel if a significant other passed over one of your most important nights in high school to go to a lego convention?

Ask your dad if there is another day that just the two of you can go to the park together this summer to make up for coastermania!

If coastermania was like the original Millennium Mania, I would skip Prom for it. :)

Ok, not really but if Millennium Mania can't supercede Prom, then coastermania doesn't have a chance in hell.

The fact that youre questioning this says a few things about your relationship, dont you think?

I know I can't ruin his prom for him and not go, I know I HAVE to go, and I do want to go to make him happy. I just need help figuring out how to do both. Prom is 7-midnight, and my boyfriend doesnt stay up late easily (He goes to bed around 9 everynight) so maybe he'll want to leave more around 11 instead of 12.
I thought of an idea though, my dad says maybe we can miss the first part and get to CM around 12, so we still get lunch and 12 hours of coaster riding. Does that sound good?

The above was a joke about your relationship, btw...i see your dilema.

Have you spoken to your boyfriend about how to do both? Seriously...if something is important to you (like prom is to him and you), then he will respect that if he cares about you.

Theres no reason one person should be making 100% of the sacrifices here.

Just a thought.

Yeah he knows, he was sitting next to me when I wrote the origonal post. He knows I love cedar point and I love him, and he knows my dad and I wait for Coaster Mania every year. I just talked to him five minutes ago on the phone too.

Well then IMO, your above idea sounds great.

Umm...what about your boyfriend going along? Or is this strictly a father-daughter thing? Maybe he would like it too?
