Somewhatchewy, they didn't believe you because a lot of people aren't well read enough to have seen the term "raptor" as a reference to a bird of prey. Since they are also poor spellers, and "rapture" is the only word they know that looks phonetically close, "raptor" becomes "rapture". Annoying, yes - uncommon, no - even among some fairly well-educated people. And don't even get me going on people's improper use of "it's" and "its", "you're" and "your", "they're", "their" and "there" and "mute point" instead of "moot point", etc., etc. And by the way, "etc." stands for "eTcetera", not "eXcetera".) Now, aren't I a snob? :) And I hope I didn't misspell anything in this post! :)
