cedar point memories
Late seventies. I was 4 or 5 and only remember certain images. Looking upward and seeing the Double Ferris Wheel in action and not understanding how it worked (seeing that mechanical monster scared the crap out of me). I also remember the wildcat and jumbo jets being over where DT is now (Those rides looked so scary to a 5 year old). And lastly, my beloved Pirate Ride (I used to love to go up on to the ship as you heard the cannons fire and the water shoot up into the air). I still don't understand why they took it out and replaced it with a lousy video game room . That is as far back as I can remember. Oh I also remember going on the San Francisco Earthquake, which also scared the crap out of me.Lol! It's kind of sad that most of the rides that I have my first memories of no longer exist. I also remember the Bayern Curve being my favorite ride. Yikes!

"ZZZZZZZ.......ZZZZZZZZ.......ZZZZZZZ.......Where are we?"
This was my experience after getting up at 5:30 in the morning and driving 3 hours. Then my brother pointed my head in the direction of the sign on the toll booth.
I was really excited, unfortunately it stormed for the first 2 hours in the park. We took shelter beside Demon Drop under an overhang of a building.
After the rain let up, I rode Iron Dragon like 7 times and have been hooked ever since.

I remember all the willow trees on the Chausee in the mid 60's. They were so thick at the time that they formed a tunnel that the road went through. I knew I was about to see something special at the end of that “tunnel”. In the park, the rides that I remember most from that first visit are the Mill Race, Sky Ride, CP & LE Railroad, and the Scamper.
Let's see...I was there for the first time with my family, in 1974, when I was ten. Too scared to go on any coasters, but did a lot of flat rides - Cedar Downs, etc. I remember looking at the Jumbo Jet & thinking that really looked scary (especially when it kept setting up with people at the top). Went in the old funhouse they used to have - remember that, some of you, with the slides that spit you out on the midway? Earthquake Ride was cool, as I recall.
Went back in 1978 with my class for our eighth grade graduation trip. Nothing like a lot of 14 year olds turned loose in an amusement park! That was the year that Gemini was new - but it was shut down for mechanical problems that day - all the guys were really pissed. I remember it didn't matter to me - I looked at it & thought "no way". Ate a lot of fried food, did a lot of spinny rides (back in the days when I could handle that stuff) - we went on something right after lunch - Schwabinchin, I think - and one of our friends puked in a trash barrel afterward. That was classic. Worked up the guts to go on Mine Ride & Wildcat - and really liked those. Too scared to do Corkscrew. Watched Jumbo Jet - still too intimidating for me - & the ride still setting up frequently. (BTW, anyone ever ride JJ - what was it like & did it set up a lot like that on a regular basis?). At the end of the day, finally got on Blue Streak - almost wet my pants - but it was fun - went on again with a guy we met from Toledo - thought he was cute & spent a lot of time giggling about him with my friends on the bus ride home (typical 14 year old stuff).
Didn't go to CP again until 1994, I think - went with my husband. (He had gotten me over my phobia of larger looping coasters by forcing me on Shock Wave & Batman at SFGA a couple years before). That was the year Raptor was new - what a blast - and what lines! (I remember people not understanding the name "Raptor" - heard some teenage girls refering to it as "Rapture"). Took me a long time to work up my guts to get on Magnum - thought I'd die of fright on the lift hill & screamed profanities all the way down - but loved it! Anyway, we skipped '95 (we had a baby), and went back in '96 and '97. Skipped the last couple years because things got too busy - but will be driving out this Sunday for MF & all our old favorites - will be there through Tuesday. The 5 year old is staying home with grandma - he's under 48" & this is a serious coaster riding mission this time around! (We'll take him to Mich Adventure later this summer). Hopefully we'll add to some more great memories!

1994: Big year for CP. First big ride in 3 years, frist big inverted coaster, Raptor. THat year everyone went to the park just for that ride (does that sound like this year at all for..MF?) [including me] You see, I conqured Raptor with almost no problems [on ride pic would show a distressed look on my and I was white] Plus I rode my first really big coaster in Magnum at night..
I had no idea where I was when I went off teh exit platform and wanted to go home, I wasn't oo exicted. 6 years later, you couldn't make me leave CP with all teh forces in the world..

My first memory was in '91 or '92, I believe, when we stopped by Cedar Point for the day after visiting relatives in Michigan (en route to Maryland). We first checked into a hotel right next to the park. I don't know if it was the Sandcastle or what. But you can see the Magnum and it went straight up in the air!! I was so in awe of the height and the huge supports it had! I never thought I would get the nerve to ride on that one. But me and my dad rode it that night. It was an unbelievable rush. My sister was freaked out by the Gemini :-) But after my experience there I would ride anything. Unfortunately, however, Kings Dominion and Busch Gardens looked a little bit smaller after that day at the Point.

My first memory of Cedar Point was in 1993 it was the first time I had ever been to the Point. I remmember going past the huge sign that Cedar Point used to have by the Raddison hotel. Then we drove about another mile and there it was creeping up long the causeway right by the lake the tip of the Space Spiral and Demon Drop. It is still one of the greatest sights I ever see.
The first time I went to CP was after I finished 5th grade. I HATED coasters(screamed and cried before you cold get me on one). But...the main guy from the group I was with got me to go on Iron Dragon. I had to hold his hand, which I practicaly cut off the circulation to, and when we got off I decided to ride it again. That and the mine ride were ALL I would do all day, ride wise that it. Now, I am willing to conquer any coaster that I am able to go on!!!!
My dad and I were 2nd and 3rd in line for MF on Coastermania and we got to ride front car on the Force for the 1st time. We were at PKI with UltimateRollercoaster the next day and finished our trip with 7 ERT rides on the Beast in 1 hour in the dark past midnight. I have come a long way since 5th grade.

1976, I was 11 years old. My best friend and I were on a youth group bus trip. Apart from the local fair, I had never even been on a roller coaster. Jumbo Jet was my first ride. Neat! Blue Streak..that first hill!!! After riding a number of flat rides, we prepared ourselves for Corkscrew. Yes, Corkscrew. It was the lastest, greatest coaster that year. My anticipation was every bit as strong as it was for MF this year. We waited almost 2 hours for each ride on Corkscrew. I don't remember how many times we rode, but that was about all we did for the rest of the day. Another Coasterfreak was born! I've been back to Cedar Point almost annually ever since. Last year, I was amused that most of the kids were dressing the way my friend and I did 23 years earlier. Kinda makes me feel old. Oh well, a couple of rides on Magnum will quickly cure that. Now that I'm all grown up, I'm a proud owner of CF stock. Great investment in my opinion. It's my happiest place on earth!
