I personally have never ridden it (too much money XD), but I go through Challenge Park a lot (Magnum entrance) and the RipCord booth never looks terribly busy. I think that you should be okay with no reservation, but if you want you could call or email for more info.

2009 - Games Supervisor
2010 - Season pass holder.
There's really no need to make a phone reservation, except *maybe* on the 4th of July.
Most of the time if you head up to the ticket booth and say "Hey, I'd like to ride Ripcord" you'll be on the thing within 20 minutes. You can always go to the booth in person and say that you'd like to ride later in the day if you are afraid of getting shut out.
Although, I haven't ridden Ripcord since this incident back in 2002, and probably never will again, so my info may not be the most up-to-date on the subject.
Let us know if their crew sucks this year or not.
