Wheel Problems true....

I was at the park today and was waiting for the back seat of the Force. My friend told me that they were going to take the Blue Train off becasue one of the white wheels were melting away. You could see the vinyal sticking to the train and to the track. Like a total idiot I had my point and shoot camera in my pocket and I didn't take a picture of it. D'OH

S: TE in California has very large diameter wheels to handle its' 100 MPH speed. MF's top speed is nearly as fast, and its' average speed is no doubt much higher. I wonder what sort of solutions they're looking into: a different compound for the wheel surface perhaps?

You know that this is incredable. I live out by SFMM, and we had the SAME posts about the Goliath wheels. It sounds like the same problem. What SFMM did is they replaced the wheels several times, until they came upon a compound that worked. Also on S:TE, when they first ran that ride, they had normal size wheels. The heat was so great, that it had burned out it's wheels before the tower section, not a good thing.

To clarify, it was the white nylon (?) wheels that were having the problems. The steel-with-polymer wheels have been OK as far as I can tell. I really wish someone had a good explanation for the use of the nylon wheels on the center cars. These were also used starting mid-season on Superman at SFDL.

Yeah, I was there on Monday too. I did take a picture of the track, don't ask why, and it looks like a white strip going along the track. It looks a little like a candy cane - with the stripes the wrong way. :-)

Well, at least part of those strips is just wear and tear from running the train, not all vinyl.

The stripes on the track are by design, not wear. It feels like some kind of gritty primer. It was there long before a single train ever touched it.
