Route 2, good winter upkeep?

If anyone from the general area could let me know if route 2 is well plowed/kept up in winter i would much appreciate it.

I'm not a fan of the turnpike, and heading to castaway bay tommorow morning to celebrate my birthday a few days early.

I would figure that it is kept up as the nuclear plant is out that way, just confirming before i head out that way.

It's a state route, so ODOT is in charge. They do a pretty good job as conditions allow. A lot of Rt. 2 is rural and open (windy), so sometimes there's not much you can do.

With that said, it's supposed to be 55 degrees here tomorrow. I don't think you'll have much to worry about with winter weather until the weekend.

I've been trying to keep up with the weather, after their threats of a ice storm last night here.

I figured for the most part it was well taken care of, but never can be too sure.

I try to avoid rte 2 once it turns to 2 lanes only west of Port Clinton. Too many accidents on that road. I read somewhere that stretch west of PC is one of the most dangerous in Ohio.

I personally avoid it like the plague.

I was just wondering why you are not a fan of the turnpike.I took US 23 than the turnpike just because it look like the most simple way on the map.I found it not that bad.What is the advantage of taking Rt.2?

It's been debated over which route is faster, but living here in Toledo, I think Rt. 2 is about 20 minutes faster than the Turnpike. The Turnpike travels a bit furter south than Rt. 2 does. Not to mention Rt. 2 is free, although disputedly more dangerous.

Rt. 2 is faster, for me at least.

I just took it this past weekend to go to Castaway Bay and it was perfect conditions, even though it had snowed heavily before we left, as well as on the way home, it had snowed really hard during the night, but the road was great.

My first season, I made close to TEN trips on the turnpike before discovering the beauty of Rt. 2. From then on, it's all I've used. It shaved close to half an hour off of my trip, plus I really love driving through that area.

I am aware that there are accidents, but I don't see why there would be a higher rate than any other busy two-lane road, other than possible fatigue from longer trips in big rigs or something.

ANYWAY. . .yeah it was pretty clear. . .and fast. ;)

Route 2 was fine on Sunday. As an added bonus, I-280 was open between 2 and I-75.

I've been liking using OH-163 lately though. You can take it all the way to I-280 or US-20 which will take you to I-75. There's a lot less trucks on it.

I agree taking Rt. 2 is a lot better. I come from Michigan on I-75 and I would rather take Rt. 2. Why drive 10 miles south to the turnpike and then get off at Sandusky and go 10 miles north to get to CP and have to pay to go that extra 20 miles? I don't think so! If I was coming from Chicago or Indiana, that may be different.

I am all about getting to CP ASAP!!!

Plus, you have more fast food options than on the turnpike (as soon as they rebuild that McDonalds!).
